promise?

Bitter coffee always reminds Nakamaru of Kame, the way Kame once sat by the balcony in his apartment and watched the sun rise, a cup of coffee and the newspaper by his side. It didn't surprise Nakamaru that Kame woke up earlier than day, because it had been Kame's off day and Nakamaru had just finished a location shooting and they sort of crashed at Nakamaru's place for the night.
He went to sit beside Kame, the aroma of the half-drank cup of coffee stronger than he thought.
“What are you looking at?”
“Nothing in particular,” Kame said. “Just that it has been a long time since I last saw sunrise.”
Nakamaru stretched out his limbs and yawned.
“Let's go somewhere after you're done with your crazy schedule,” he said.
Kame smiled at him, hopeful and accomodating. “When we are both done with our crazy schedule, you mean.”
There has been nothing else planned after the day that conversation took place, and Nakamaru wonders if Kame was only playing along, thinking that Nakamaru was only offering lip service.
He turns a page somewhere near the back of his planner and scribbles “Okinawa” on it.
There's no date attached to the word, but at least there's a promise waiting to be fulfilled. After all, “someday” shouldn't be left as just a distant promise.
