[team 1] ~untitled~

so a while back I wrote a superhero!au for kisumai exchange and was playing around with more ideas for it/backstories and then this happened.

“Energy!” someone yells, and there’s a blinding flash that leaves white spots dancing in Fujigaya’s vision. There are more yells, a mix of codenames, commands and accompanying attacks. His ears ring, and he squeezes his eyes tight shut, pressing the heels of his hands against his lids as the ground shakes beneath him. He is not scared. He’s not.

He takes a deep, shuddery breath, and tries to calm down enough to find that place in his mind where his core energy flows, just like his mother had told him to. She had also made Fujigaya promise that he would only use his ability in the most terrible of times, until he had mastered it. Back then, Fujigaya had nodded, and his mother had scooped him up in her arms and said that maybe his ability was special enough to be noticed by the fabled Rangers.

It’s only really been just over a year since, but Fujigaya holds onto the memory tight, and imagines that it was only yesterday that his mother was still telling him bedtime stories, instead of his aunts strict face and a cold glass of milk.

A loud crash to his left pulls Fujigaya out of his memories and back to his task at hand. He wedges himself further into his hiding place and concentrates on trying to make his ‘mental footprint’ as small as possible. He has no idea what it means, but his teacher had told him he was good at it, even though Fujigaya still a child. Once he’s as small as he thinks he’s going to get, he sends it out to follow the blinking mental beacons of the attackers minds. He doesn’t really know what he’s doing, but hopefully some of the natural instinct he was told about might help him find out information to aid his village.

He doesn’t get very far at all before he rams into a barrier, one so strong it forcibly ejects him from his scenario. Fujigaya opens his eyes in shock, only to see a tall figure dark as the night sky standing in front of him. Their face is hidden in inky blackness by a hood, and the way they stand is infinitely menacing.

“Now that,” the figure says, and it’s voice makes Fujigaya want to clamp his hand over his ears, “is an ability that needs to be in my collection.”
