[Team 2] Crusader
Continuing on the manga crossover theme, here's a slightly confusing Bleach crossover. Should probably make sense without prior knowledge of Bleach, but there'll be some unfamiliar terms here and there.
Smiling a bitter, lopsided smile to himself, he slowly curls his fingers around the handle of the long katana hanging at his side.
"This is it," he murmurs. "Our last stand."
The Hollows are drawing near now, the entire horde of them darkening the sky like ever so many errant stormclouds. He's never seen the sky of Soul Society this black, like a symbol of impending apocalypse.
Slowly, he pulls the sword out from its crimson lacquer sheath, blade glowing dimly in anticipation.
"Our last stand," he repeats, as though that would make the fact more real.
Their last stand, their last crusade, their last charge against the Hollows before they die and break up into tiny reiatsu particles scattered around Soul Society. Its a pretty poetic way to go, but he's not sure if he's ready to go yet.
We'll die either way, Toshiya.
The voice that speaks in his head is layered with an uncommonly somber undertone, and Miyata knows that the situation is affecting his zanpakutou as much as it affects him.
"So let's make sure we go out with a bang, Yuta," he murmurs grimly, and feels his blade thrum in agreement. It's not often that he uses the true given name of his sword spirit (like any normal shinigami he usually refers to the zanpakutou by its release) and he's using it now to convey the strength of his uncharacteristic seriousness.
Ready when you are.
Yuta's voice is tinged with finality, and Miyata eyes the approaching storm of Hollows one last time. He takes a deep breath, and then sends reiatsu to his feet, flash-stepping his way towards the oncoming tsunami.
"Rain thunder from the heavens!" he roars, raising his sword.
There is a flash of white, and then no more.
