[team one] (In which Katsuragi Ren spends a night in X Hospital)
I still have time, right? orz
Here, a ficlet. Drama crossover/s. 8D
Hospital visits are scary things to Katsuragi Ren on the best of days, but even more so on a rainy Halloween night.
The doctors don't scare him, and he doesn't believe in Halloween per se, but Ren finds the overall aura of hospitals creepy. And tonight of all nights, he can't leave as quickly as he normally would. It is raining hard enough that it's become dangerous to drive home; his mother is already resting post-surgery and he doesn't want to go back there to make awkward small talk. So he's stuck sitting at the lobby, playing with his phone until he tires of the same games. He stands up to check whether or not it's still raining, and on his way out, he finds a man leaning heavily against the wall.
He does a double take, wait this man is familiar, but Ren knows that Shu is home, writing for their next release. He knows his bandmate doesn't take acting projects by himself, usually leaving up the solo activities to him or to Mio, so the man in front of him can't possibly be the shy Fujishiro Shu.
It takes a while for the man to calm down, a few deep breaths at a time, but tries to run again when he senses another presence.
"Wait, I'm not going to hurt you, calm down," Ren tells the other man. Ren does his best impression of a regular next-door guy, schooling his face into a gentler, calmer expression, except his usual scowl is most probably etched into his face by now and he's failing spectacularly. But it does the job, the other man stops to try running.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here beyond visiting hours?" The other man asks Ren when he's collected enough of his wits.
Ren almost huffs in annoyance, but refrains from doing so. The other man just went through quite a scare if the position Ren found him in is any indication, plus it's kind of refreshing to be reminded that not everyone knows of his band. "Katsuragi Ren. My mother is a patient; I was waiting for the rain to stop and I didn't want to go back to her room when she's already resting," Ren explains instead. "I should ask the same thing; what's your name?"
The other man responds with a shy little nod, "I'm sorry you had to see me in such a state; Sasaki Naoki. Medical intern."
"Now I'm curious, what's gotten you so shaken up?" Ren asks.
"It's hard to explain." Sasaki sighs, "It's quite ridiculous, because as someone from this profession, I shouldn't believe in such things."
Ren listens on, genuinely concerned now, but when Sasaki says nothing more after that, he says in reply, "It doesn't matter if you're from the medical field, if something caused you such concern, then it can't be ignored."
"I think it's better to show you, then," Sasaki gives in. He leads Ren into a storage room, seemingly unused if the cobwebs and dust were anything to gather by.
Ren is starting to get creeped out, more than just his usual apprehension when visiting hospitals, and just as they were about to step further inside, he blurts out, "There aren't any bugs in here, right?"
Sasaki almost laughs, but with the other man's glare, he obliges Ren. "No, rest assured that there is none."
They continue on in, Sasaki still leading the way. Ren isn't too far behind, taking in his surroundings with curiosity and caution, and he nearly stumbles on the man in front of him when Sasaki suddenly halts in his step.
"Here," Sasaki begins. "It's when I'm all alone, at certain times of day, that I hear children crying. I serve time at the adult medical-surgical ward, so that should be impossible, right?"
A chill runs down Ren's spine and not in the fun way, but he lets Sasaki continue with his story. What on earth have I gotten myself into? he asks himself. The lights suddenly flicker off and on, and Ren grabs onto Sasaki out of reflex. When the light returns to normal, Ren quickly lets go, quite embarrassed at how he's easily scared and in front of a stranger, even.
Sasaki was about to continue, but at the empty bed in front of them is the apparition of a man with his head half-crushed, face bloodied. The man is dressed so casually, a bag slung over his shoulder and a card identifying him as a member of the media hanging loosely around his neck. The most noticeable feature of the apparition, aside from all the blood, is his nose, and the gentle smile on his face; a smile which turns into a full-blown, squinty-eyed grin at Ren and Sasaki. The two men make a run for it, too panicked to even scream.

I saw the drama special Miyata appeared in, and his character's turnout broke me ;___; He's the ghost, btw. ;)
