[Team 1] Accidental Happenings

So... Experimentation continues. 8|b Poor Jongin bb is the third party member, I just... Didn't actually get around to naming him. 8X;; Sorry bb. (Obviously I needed to write about their superpowers.)

Less than an hour ago, Huang Zitao had been nothing more than a normal teenager, taking the long way home with a group of his friends, full on good food and better company with all the laughter and joking that accompanied such things. Nobody wanted to go to school the next day, nobody really wanted to go to sleep that night. Zitao is young, restless, and reckless.

Less than an hour ago, Huang Zitao had nearly died.

It had been a foolish thing, stepping off the curb while walking backwards, because the story needed to be told that way. Everything blurred together after that, a split second filled with headlights and screeching tires and the danger slamming through Zitao’s senses. He tripped, fell hard to the ground, and realized it was over.

The collision never came, though. A stilled silence, one that was alien to the bustling city, settled around Zitao. He could feel the blinding headlights upon him, but he lay there on the ground and nothing had happened.

Cracking an open, Zitao found that the world had frozen around him.

His friends were like statues on the street corner, all wearing expressions of horror as they looked at him. The man driving the car was pressed back against his seat, mouth open in a shout. There were other people, other cars, life, but nothing moved.

“Wow,” drawled a voice behind him. “That’s got to be a record of most dramatic Talent discovery ever, don’t you think, Minseok?”

When Zitao whipped around, he found three men approaching from across the frozen traffic towards him, dressed in black suits and gloves. But they were smiling and their stride was almost casual.

“Even more than Chanyeol’s?” another asked (who must have been Minseok), and they all laughed. They were actually quite young, Zitao realized as they got closer. They didn’t look much older than he did, if at all. Minseok was shorter than his companions, with large eyes and a warm smile to Zitao as he held out a hand to help him up. Zitao stumbled to his feet, feeling too numb to do more than stare at the three of them, and then following Minseok as they lead him back onto the sidewalk, away from his friends.

“Chanyeol was totally already planning on setting the lab on fire though,” said the first man with a shrug. “I doubt this kid was intending to get hit by a car. Were you?” This was shot at Zitao with a grin, but Zitao was still trying to figure out if his tongue worked. It felt like it was stuck to the roof of his mouth.

“This is actually really impressive, though!” the third boy blurted out, doing a small bounce on the balls of his feet and beaming at Zitao. “He’s got this whole block trapped in a time bubble and he ain’t even concentrating. I dunno if you could freeze so much by yourself, Lu Han.”

“Not without Minseok doing some freezing of his own,” Lu Han agreed, thoughtful. “But it’s completely different anyway. And you’re going to have to unfreeze it too.”

“Do you think you can do it, Zitao?” Minseok asked kindly, peering up at Zitao.

“What?” Zitao croaked, finally finding his voice, though his senses hadn’t quite caught up. The silence around them was disturbing in a way that sank into his bones and had him locking up.

“Don’t think,” Minseok said firmly. “Just close your eyes and let it go.”

“Let what go?” Zitao’s voice shot up an octave because his head was spinning and his body ached and he didn’t understand. “What are you talking about!”

“You froze time. Now you have to undo it,” Minseok explained. Those words should have sounded far more absurd than they did and something about the quiet seriousness in Minseok’s eyes had Zitao nodding slowly.

“You can do it,” the third boy said with a confidence that felt misplaced but also calming.

With Minseok’s fingers warm on his wrist like an anchor, Zitao closed his eyes. His heart was still beating erratically and there was a tremble in his body that he couldn’t quell, but he tried to follow Minseok’s whispered instructions, to take a deep breath and relax not just his body, but his mind as well. In the darkness behind his lids, it was almost tranquil.

Life exploded into action around them, with car horns and loud conversations, even the buzz of the nearby neon lights, and the suddenness was overwhelming. Zitao flinched, but as soon as everything resumed its normal course, Minseok was pulling him into a nearby car.

“Where are we going?”

“Somewhere safe,” Lu Han said, sliding into the driver’s seat. As they pulled away from the curb, Zitao twisted around so he could see out the back window. While he couldn’t hear his friends screaming, the fear and confusion was all there with the car skidding to a stop in front of where he’d once been.

Somewhere safe, Lu Han had said, and Zitao wondered what he needed to be kept safe from.

(Three months later, Zitao’s record was broken by a boy named Jongdae who had been struck by lightning and had walked away with a smile and nary a hair out of place.)

Bless you, Rinbeanie, for this.

And of course Jongdae would come out of discovering his power relatively unscathed xD

I actually know someone who's gotten struck by lightning twice (and clearly is still alive to talk about it) :x apparently your chances increase dramatically once you've gotten struck once x_x
