[Team 1] Fearless

Strung together some bits and pieces I had flying around. Won't have time to really write but didn't want to skip by turn either.

This was inspired by "Loveless".

Nothing risked nothing earned. That was Iwamoto’s style of fighting. And that meant that he needed to have a sacrifice who could take some of the blows the other side delivered. When the two of them had met for the first time, he hadn’t thought that the other was suitable but it had turned out that he was just the one he’d been looking for. The headmaster’s words had proven themselves to be right once more. Fate would bring them together - a perfect match, an entity. They would become one, one name, one heart, one soul.

Sakuma lifted his hand lazily when a shackle appeared around his wrist. The restraint was inconvenient but the spell hadn’t been cast very well. The shackle was loose, the chain long.

Looking at the figure in front of him, a small smile tugged on his lips when he watched Iwamoto’s tail swish back and forth in a certain way. Sakuma knew what it meant, knew what the other was thinking at his very moment.

His ears perked up a little bit in anticipation. The battle would be over soon, the lesson would be taught and they could all continued to enjoy the sunny day outside.

Watanabe watched the battle from a little wall off to the side with his own partner, Miyadate. His cat ears were twitching a bit, his tail swishing back and forth. “They’re leaving them too much freedom. If they keep that up, they’ll just end up getting their asses kicked.”

“Hikaru wouldn’t go that hard on them. They’re still young after all,” Miyadate pointed out.

“True,” Watanabe shrugged. “Let’s go somewhere else, Ryota. I don’t think we need to watch this? We know the outcome already anyway. And it’ll be over soon, so Sakkun and Hikaru can just catch up once they’ve finished.”

Miyadate’s tail swished back and forth as he thought aloud, “Should we find Fukka and Abe-chan? They were going to study spells, weren’t they?”

“By which you mean Abe-chan was going to do so and Fukka’s distracting him from doing just that?” Watanabe asked. “Yeah, let’s go. Maybe we’ll find Non-chan and Sanapi, too.”

Those had been their carefree days, the days when they had been young and nothing but having fun had really mattered. Those days were now long gone. Not for all but for some of them at least. The battles had become more than just play. More than just something random to do apart from their normal school work. More than just practice. They had become serious. They had become dangerous. Again, not all of them, only some.

Sanada was looking forward to seeing his school friends again. It had been a few years now, life having pulled them apart after graduation. His tail was swishing back and forth excitedly.

“You’re being so obvious,” Nozawa smiled at the other. “They’ll make fun of you.”

Making a face, Sanada commented, “You’re the only one who keeps making fun of me.”

The bell attached to the cafe’s door rang, announcing the arrival of more guests. A group of six walked in and the waitress led them to the table in the back where Sanada and Nozawa had already taken their seats. Sanada was smiling and waving at first but then stopped mid-movement when he spotted his friends.

Gone were ears and tails, gone were the smiles and laughter - both from the others’ faces and their eyes as well.

Nozawa got up and pushed Sanada behind him in order to protect him. His battle aura expanded around him as well, draping themselves over them like a protective shield. “I declare a spell battle.”

“Yuki?” Sanada looked confused.

Iwamoto looked at his companions and then stepped forward with Sakuma. “We accept.”

The battlefield appeared as the shields closed around them.

“Why? Why are you doing this?” Sanada asked from behind Nozawa. There was hurt and confusion in his eyes. “Sakkun! Gan-chan!”

“We were sent by the Seven Moons,” Iwamoto looked at both of them, eyes cold and emotionless. “Your bond was deemed fickle, we’re here to break off the rest.”

Sanada’s stomach sank. Fickle? Break off? What were they talking about?

“Are you guys talking about the headmaster’s teachings?” Nozawa asked. “Do you guys really believe what he sa-”

Something had stopped him mid-word. Something he was seeing, something that both he and Sanada were seeing right now. Something seemed to be glowing on both Iwamoto’s and Sakuma’s arms. Signs. No, letters. A name.

“Nothing risked, means nothing can be gained. Come at us with all you have. We will take on anything, we are not afraid, for we are Fearless,” both of them whispered.
