[team three] random mail clerk AU
Super sick of skipping my turn, so here's a quick thing that'll probably end up shorter than this foreword.
"Shipping comes to 1270 yen," Ohno says as he smooths the edges of the postage information down, sliding across the top corner the box and curling his fingers around the edge. He looks up at the customer and waits quietly as he sorts through his change purse with a finger, squinting at the coins as if they're hard to see from 20 centimeters away.
"Sorry," the customer says with a wry grin and the slightest Kansai pitch in his syllables. "I'm trying to use up my loose change before I head back home later this week. 850..."
Ohno eyes the destination on the package. "Back to Kyoto?"
The customer nods. "Ah, got it." He lays a tedious amount of coins supposedly adding up to 1270 yen on the tray in front of him and looks up at Ohno. "I'm coming home as a surprise to my dad and his new wife, so this package is something to throw them off the scent."
"Hm," Ohno says, half listening as he slides the tray toward him, pushing the coins to one side as he adds them up in his head. He waits until he confirms the amount and begins sorting it into the register before he processes his next thought. "I hope you get along with your new step-mom." He's met with a smile when he returns his attention to the customer, waiting for the receipt.
"As long as they're happy," he says so sincerely that Ohno feels like he's suddenly neighbors with the entirety of Kyoto. The customer takes the receipt and nods. "Thank you."
Charmed all the way down to his toes, Ohno meets the customer's eyes. "No, thank you." He smiles and watches as the customer leaves, the jingle of the door behind him warm and friendly.
"Next!"
Go ahead,
mynamelessname!
