[Team Three] Summer Dreamer

I read Ri's shiritori and saw the little glimpses of Taiga/Shintaro and didn't realize how much I liked them. So here. I made a thing happen. Also I am very bad at titles, please forgive me.

“You are all the worst,” Juri grumbles, rubbing vigorously at the marker on his face.

Taiga just laughs quietly, watching as Shintaro casually drops the marker into Shouki’s open bag and pretends to help Juri wash the drawings off of his face. Really though, Shintaro is just making it worse and after about five minutes Juri’s face looks worse than it had originally.

“Just stop touching me, you’re making it worse!” Juri snaps, stomping out of the room like a true nineteen year old and mumbling about telling Kouchi on them for doing this to him.

Taiga just shakes his head when Shintaro grins at him, retrieving the marker once again. “This is why everyone calls you a brat, you know?”

“What’s the fun in being the baby of the group if I can’t get away with shit like this?” Shintaro asks, and Taiga supposes he has a point. “Besides, it’s not like I’m drawing on your face with it.”

Taiga doesn’t get a chance to reply before Shintaro leaves the room in search of another sleeping victim. As long as it’s not a senpai that could actually get Shintaro fired, Taiga doesn’t really care who he draws on. However when Shintaro returns with black smudges on his own face and looking like a kicked puppy Taiga feels like it’s time he intervened.

“Jinguji was asleep in the next room, but when I went to draw on him he woke up and punched me in the face before wrestling me for the marker and well,” Shintaro points at his face, eyes pleading and sad as he stares at Taiga. “He apologized for hitting me, but the brat said I deserved this.”

“You do deserve it,” Taiga replies, pulling Shintaro by the wrist into the nearest bathroom so they can get his face cleaned up before they need to be in front of any cameras.

“How long have you liked him?” Juri asks later, sneaking up behind him and making him jump.

“What? Who?” Taiga asks, continuing to put things into his bag along with Shintaro’s.

“You know exactly who I’m talking about,” Juri goes on, and then gestures towards where Shintaro is messing around with Shouki in the corner. “You’ve known that kid for like 7 years, grow a pair and tell him you find him attractive. Your constant lovesick puppy eyes make me feel like puking.”

Taiga blinks. “I do not have lovesick puppy eyes for anyone in this group. You’re just imagining things.”

Juri snorts. “Right, that’s why you’re always making sure you’re close by in case he does something stupid.”

“That’s what friends do for each other!” Taiga hisses, frustration growing the longer Juri speaks to him about this. “Just go away. Go bother someone else.”

“If you don’t tell him you like him, then someone else will and they’ll take him away from you completely.” Juri tells him, completely serious and Taiga’s heart stops for a second or two at that thought. “You’re not the only one who has noticed the way he’s grown up. He’s an attractive guy, and if you really don’t like him then you should move out of the way and let someone else who does get close to him.”

“What are you--” Taiga pauses, words dying on his tongue as he realizes what Juri is really trying to say here. “You like him, don’t you? That’s why you’re saying all of this to me right now.”

Juri crosses his arms and stares Taiga down. “And if I do? You just said you don’t like him, so why should it matter if I do?”

Taiga narrows his eyes and opens his mouth to speak, only to snap it shut the moment Shintaro bounces over with a grin on his face. Thankfully he doesn’t notice that either one of them are currently glaring at each other, instead all he does is ask if Taiga wants to come home with him because his parents are going out of town for the weekend and he hates being home alone. Taiga agrees and smirks at Juri when he doesn’t get an invite.

The Morimoto household is as empty as Shintaro had promised, and it’s kind of weird to not hear Ryuutaro running his mouth about one of his five girlfriends. The nice part about it being just the two of them in the house, is that they don’t have to be as quiet when talking and they can discuss anything they want without Shintaro’s mother giving them a withering look.

They settle down in the living room to watch a movie, Shintaro waits until Taiga is sitting before he sprawls out across the couch and drops his head in Taiga’s lap. It’s habit by this point for Taiga to just run his fingers through Shintaro’s hair, nails scratching lightly at his scalp. Shintaro shifts occasionally and lets out a small sigh of happiness with each brush of Taiga’s fingers, after a while it starts to do weird things to Taiga’s heart.

“I need to do something real quick,” Taiga says, pushing Shintaro’s head up until he can slide out from underneath him and run into the kitchen.

Taiga doesn’t know what exactly he’s going to do in the kitchen, he just knows that he couldn’t stay there any longer with Shintaro in his lap and making happy little noises every time Taiga touched him. He settles for just washing his hands, hoping that maybe it’ll be enough of a distraction to calm his heart and clear his mind.

“How much more obvious do I need to be?” Shintaro asks and Taiga looks up from where he’d been washing his hands in the kitchen. “Do you think I go around dropping my head in everyones lap? Or invite them over because my entire family is out of town for a few days?”

“What?”

“Why don’t you get it?” Shintaro asks instead of answering, which just confuses Taiga even more. “If you would just get it, then this wouldn’t be such an issue.”

”What?”

Shintaro sighs. “Nevermind. Juri said you wouldn’t care even if I said anything, I guess he was right.”

Taiga remains in the kitchen long after Shintaro’s left, presumably back to his own room, and the longer Taiga stands there thinking about what just happened the angrier he becomes at Juri. Though before he can do anything about his anger, the reality of what Shintaro was trying to tell him sinks in.

“Oh my god,” Taiga murmurs, immediately heading right for Shintaro’s room before anything else happens.

He throws Shintaro’s bedroom door open so hard that it bangs right off the wall and nearly closes again, Shintaro just looks up from where he’d been flipping through one of the many books he’d inherited from his brother.

“I really hope you didn’t just put a hole in my wall, my mother will kill me and then you.” Shintaro says seriously, and Taiga just rolls his eyes before pulling him into the tightest hug he can manage.

“I get it.” Taiga tells him. “I get it.”

“It’s about time,” Shintaro mutters, squeezing him back and suddenly nothing else matters.
