[team two] Mizutama feelings

Nfufu it would have been an adventure to try to use the majority of your turn, so thanks for the mercy, [livejournal.com profile] orangegreenlove. XD

Been having a lot of feelings watching Suikyuu Yankees, so here's this. Includes spoilers for episode 8 (the training camp one that just aired).

"Did someone call my name?"

Nagisa turns her head and crinkles her nose up toward where Naoya has popped his curious head into the kitchen. He's still big and doofusy and blond as the sun, but Nagisa's resigned to the state of her life. "No one called you. Now sit back down." She returns her attention to the sizzling onions in the pan in front of her. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees Naoya tilt his head bemusedly before turning back toward the living room.

"You sure you don't need my help?" he calls. Nagisa is certain that his help will only make things worse, so she makes a noise in denial. She concentrates on the task in front of her while she listens to Naoya's rhythmic huffing -- pushups, or maybe some weight training, to keep himself in shape for the next day's water polo practice. Naoya isn't good for much, but the way he throws himself completely into the things he cares about is hardly a weakness.

Their dinner ends up being quick and simple -- rice, tonkatsu, a vegetable mixture, and corn on the cob, because Nagisa hardly has the time to learn how to cook properly between managing her own water polo team and surviving Naoya -- but Naoya looks grateful anyway. Nagisa slides the corn on the cob closer toward him and watches as he eagerly claps his hands together.

"I hope we live together forever," Naoya says offhandedly around a mouthful of rice. "You know what I like to eat -- and I can cook for you, too," he adds just as Nagisa's indignance rises up her throat. It settles there, and what's left is the warmth on her cheeks at Naoya's casual comment about living together.

"You'd better," she responds as flatly as she can. "I expect you to pull your weight around here."

He has no choice, really, and neither does she -- ever since they were bound together at the shrine, she's had to come to terms with the fact that Naoya will be there, every day for the rest of her life. She's mulled and stewed and even gotten to the point where she can't picture her life without him, but not even the gods will get her to admit that out loud.

Nagisa sighs into her rice, and Naoya blinks curiously from across the table. Fate has played a cruel trick on her, but she's not sure she minds.

Your turn, [livejournal.com profile] miquilis!
