[Team One] Unexpectations
I needed to figure out what to write and I was told either vampires or PH and this one apparently won out.
Slight expansion on this drabble, which, of course, gives away the whole implied mystery of this piece, but whatever. 8D
He falls and the world falls with him.
Dimly he’s aware of Yamada shouting his name, but it’s hard. It’s hard to feel, to think past the pain, all blazing white hot, everything too sharp and out of focus.

This isn’t how it’s supposed to end.

Yamada doesn’t really come into Yuto’s life so much as Yuto literally falls into Yamada’s. It’s the curse of having trees for legs, though Yuto feels more like a willow than an oak as he tumbles down a missed step, knocking over a boy who strangely beautiful as they crash to the ground.
Yamada is nothing short of grumpy after that, no matter what profuse apologies Yuto showers upon him, and that really should have been it; an ending filled with Yuto’s guilt and Yamada’s disdain, but it doesn’t.
They share two classes, despite having completely different majors. Yuto thinks it’s cool that Yamada’s an Anthropology major. Yamada doesn’t ask what Yuto’s major is. Mostly he glowers at his notes. The glower intensifies when they’re paired together for the first project of the semester.
(Yuto wonders what he did to make Yamada dislike him so much. Minus the whole collision that was their introduction, because this seemed to be far too severe.)
“I can’t meet up until after ten,” Yamada tells him when class is over, stuffing their overpriced, overweight textbook into his backpack. He hasn’t actually looked at Yuto the entire time. “I’m free on Wednesdays and Thursday.”
Yuto wants to protest, because that’s when he meets up with the guys in Yabu’s garage, but then Yamada glances up, and instead of looking angry, he looks cautious, lips pursed in worry rather than irritation. He was so pretty, is all Yuto can think, before he finds himself agreeing that Thursday at 10 would be great(“!!!”).
The best policy seems to be low expectations, so Yuto goes into their study session thinking he’s going to spend the entire hour in silence, except Yamada opens up his apartment with a smile and a light in his eyes that has Yuto reeling.
“I’m really sorry,” he says as he ushers Yuto inside and Yuto’s staring but social etiquette be damned because if he thought Yamada being surly was attractive, it was nothing compared to this one. He’s so distracted that he nearly misses the full apology. “I know we got off on the wrong foot and it’s really my fault.”
Yuto kind of falls into his words. Apparently Yamada works a lot of nightshifts and he wasn’t ready for the start of the semester and he’s super apologetic as he offers Yuto store bought cookies with a sheepish smile that makes Yuto feel a bit like floating. They don’t get much studying done at all, instead deciding to meet up the next day at 10. Yamada laughs and Yuto promises to bring snacks.
That’s the start of things.
