[Team Five] There is no 'I' in Team.

... I really need to learn to like, hit the post button. Yeesh.

(This was supposed to be like a Star Wars AU but the Star Wars part never really happened, whoops.)

“Smile, I promise it won’t hurt you,” Seungyoon said as he slung himself down on the stairs next to Taehyun. Sunset and starships painted the skyline, bathing the planet in a red glow. It would have been pleasant – if Taehyun wasn’t already in such a bad mood.

“You say that,” Taehyun muttered, “but you weren’t the one who failed your evaluations.” It had been simmering under his skin since he’d left the council room, a mixture of shame and anger – at himself. He hadn’t tried enough, hadn’t overcome enough, hadn’t –

“Nobody did well, Taehyunnie,” Seungyoon pointed out quietly, reaching over to clamp a hand on Taehyun’s knee, because they’d been together long enough that he knew when Taehyun was spiraling. “Your scores weren’t that bad, especially since we’re trying for advanced techniques that aren’t normally addressed for like, five more years.”

“That bad?” Taehyun nearly screeched, batting away Seungyoon’s hand and bolting to his feet. “They told me I was holding the team back. I nearly levitated a statue through the windows and that was before I nearly set Minho on fire. Master Hyungsuk practically told me to leave.”

“Nobody did well,” Seungyoon said, grabbing Taehyun’s shoulders and squeezing. It wasn’t gentle or encouraging, but hard enough to bruise.

(Hard enough to keep Taehyun where he was.)

“They’re not saying that because they don’t think you should be here,” Seungyoon said. “They’re saying that because they do. We rely on you so fucking much, Taehyun, and we have to. We absolutely have to. We need you here and I need you here, because without you, this team is going to fall apart.”

Stunned into silence, Taehyun just stood, stiff as a board between Seungyoon’s hands, eyes wide and unblinking. Eventually Seungyoon seemed to notice, his fingers uncurling and then gently soothing over the sore flesh of Taehyun’s shoulders.

“I’m sorry, I know it’s a lot of pressure… But I also know that if anyone could do it, you can.”

He let go, and Taehyun felt his shoulders slump, as gravity pulled him back down and kept him there.

“But,” Seungyoon added, heading down the steps and then pausing. “Nobody said you had to do it alone.”
