[team sonic] the start
First words from Warmth.
Title from Heartbeats by The Knife.
The best way to start a Saturday is definitely NOT by waking up to something or someone clawing insistently at your door, the sharp sound stopping after a few moments only to pick up and die again.
Yoongi groans into his pillow, pulls the blanket over his head and tries to smother the sound. The light is shining in his window already, through the crack in the curtains that he was too lazy to pull completely shut.
The sound repeats, the scratching even more frantic, and in his sleep-groggy state it sounds like tiny demons clawing at the surface, begging entry to his home so they can tear him into pieces and gnaw at his flesh.
Maybe they're wolves. Two hours of sleep, he thinks, and buried his face in the mattress. The sound only continues, growing more and more insistent, and Yoongi finds himself rolling out of bed, thwack as his head collides with the nightstand, legs tangled up and bound in the mess of sheets. He fights them, more asleep than awake, finally getting free of them before he stumbles to his feet and heads for the door.
"I'm coming," Yoongi mumbles, fingers fumbling with the door as he only manages to accidentally lock the door again, the electronic voice scolding him before he manages to press the right button. Once the goblins eat me, then I can sleep, the errant thought runs through his mind even though he knows it makes no sense.
Yoongi blinks, looking out at the hallway. There's no one there, until he feel warm breath on his feet and sees a small poodle nosing at his bare toes, the sheet-welted skin of his legs.
"Hobie!" a voice calls from down the hallway, and a young man rounds the corner, striped pajamas flashing as he races toward Yoongi's door.
"Oh," Yoongi says, as Hobie slips past his legs into the apartment. The young man stops in front of him, breathless and gasping, hands resting on his knees for support.
"I'm sorry!" he bursts out, before practically bowling Yoongi over as he chases the toy poodle into his living room; Yoongi watches, bemused, as the stranger finally corners the small dog in the bathroom, his surprisingly low voice scolding, "Hobie! That was very very bad of you!"
"Sorry again," he says, smiling sheepishly as he walks out Yoongi's front door, Hobie tucked under his arm. "I'm Taehyung, by the way." Yoongi is still too tired for this, as he finds himself shaking Taehyung's hand, the door swinging shut behind him. He stands there for a moment, listing slightly to one side, before he shakes his head and collapses back into bed.
That was strange, is his last thought as he drifts back into sleep. I've never seen him before.
When Yoongi wakes up the next morning with goblins at his front door, blinking blearily at the clock, he realizes that Taehyung probably isn't going to be a stranger for much longer.
