[team one] i imagine you with me

Recently I'm into dramas a lot. Last week I watched The Lover and I got really emotional about Takuya/Joonjae, finished the show and thought I was okay. Apparently I wasn't, because I just got random feels about a particular scene so. This is what's happening this round. Basically I just wrote what happened from Takuya's POV + some more go me!!!

Joonjae's lips are trembling. He's going to cry, Takuya thinks. I've never seen him cry before.

He wants to comfort the other, but Joonjae is talking to his girlfriend and Takuya was both yelled at - by said girlfriend - and begged - by Joonjae - to stay out of it. Accused of cheating on Soojin, even though he never cheated, never made a move, Joonjae finally breaks. "There is someone I like," he says, and as Takuya's heart rate picks up, he wills himself to stay where he is, to not meddle. But he still can't stop watching.

"But it's not like we can be together," says Joonjae. "It's just...my feelings."

He's crying, now. And the worst part is that it's not loud catastrophic sobbing, but silent, tears running down his cheeks, something he can't seem to stop. And Takuya is there, rooted to the spot, unable to do anything.

"So let's break up." The words seem so loud in the quiet, tense atmosphere of the apartment. It's so obvious that Joonjae never intended to hurt Soojin, that he can't control his feelings, and they both look so broken that Takuya feels like he's imposing.

It's not just you, idiot, he thinks, closing the bedroom door, separating himself from the broken couple before he does any more damage, before he breaks too.

It's not like we can be together.

Of course not, because Takuya is going home to Japan soon, because Joonjae doesn't know how he really feels, how he's felt from the very beginning, despite how obvious he's been. It's new to Takuya too, feeling like this, but he was worse at hiding it than Joonjae.

Of course they can't be together. Of course they can't.

It's Takuya's turn to distance himself. Minimize the pain when he'll have to leave in a couple of days.

"I'm sorry, but I'd like to be alone," he tells Joonjae later, when Soojin has left. The other's quiet acceptance of it is unbearable, and Takuya holes himself up in the bedroom, while Joonjae sleeps on the couch.

Takuya is awoken late at night by the sound of a thump, coming from the living room. Joonjae groaning in pain. He must have fallen off the sofa. Takuya wants to check on him, ask if he's okay.

He doesn't leave the bed, instead curls up further, resolving to pack up and leave in the morning so Joonjae can have his apartment back. He supposes he's overstayed his welcome, anyway.

He doesn't cry loudly, either.

He leaves. But he can't stay away, has to see him one last time before he goes home.

When he arrives, Joonjae is sleeping, with a frown on his face as if he's having bad dreams. He looks ill. Takuya can't help but touch him, and pokes his cheek pointedly. He stifles a laugh when Joonjae groans, pushing his hand away. And then he slowly opens his eyes, blinks in confusion at the sight of him, and Takuya smiles, wishing he could see this again.

"You'll get wrinkles if you sleep like that," he says, trying to smooth out the frown on the other's face.

And Joonjae looks at him with the most surprised face, and they're both quiet for a moment, until Joonjae reaches out to touch his cheek, like he's checking that he's real. Takuya takes a moment to feel flattered that Joonjae likes him that much, and then Joonjae sits up, still staring.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Takuya asks.

"You're back?" Joonjae replies.

Only for today. Takuya doesn't answer.

He makes Joonjae soup, watches him eat. And he feels so fond, he's smiling just being able to look at him.

They avoid the important topics, and instead he asks about the food, how it tastes. All day, they talk about anything and everything other than the most pressing issue.

He hates how fondly Joonjae looks at him too, like they have all the time in the world, because it makes it so much harder when he has to leave again. Hates that he's fallen in love, that he can't stop looking at Joonjae even when the other falls asleep.

But he loves it, too. Loves thinking about the good times they had, how close they got in such a short timespan, how good Joonjae was to him.

He watches Joonjae sleep, laments what they will not have, the moments that will only fade to be nothing but memories.

He holds his hand until he has to go.

There is a knock on the door.

"Yes, I'm coming!" Takuya calls, jogs to the door.

Behind it is someone he didn't think he would see again. His heart races.

"Hello, I am Joonjae," says Joonjae in stilted Japanese.

"We'll have to share the bed, for now," says Takuya in the evening. He bites his lip, watches Joonjae curiously.

"I don't mind!" Joonjae replies maybe a little too quickly, and he looks bashful when he realizes it. But it only makes Takuya even happier.

They watch each other for the longest time before they go to sleep. Joonjae makes the first move, tentatively moving forward to kiss Takuya's cheek, but Takuya turns his head so that their lips touch. It's brief, but he sighs in content, and Joonjae smiles a little.

They have all the time in the world.
