[team three] departure
so, GOT7 released a comeback trailer yesterday and it's weird and good and sad and gave me all kinds of ideas. this is just something short and random about the road trip part.
It would be a miracle if everything went as planned and without problems on a road trip. So of course it doesn’t, especially with the seven of them. It all starts only about five minutes away from home with Bambam shouting and flailing and telling Jaebum to turn back because he’s forgotten his phone.
The next time they’ve almost gotten to the highway already when Youngjae realizes he doesn’t have his wallet with him.
Third time’s the charm, finally, and once they enter the highway number one towards South, Jaebum promises to leave the next person realizing they’ve forgotten something crucial by the road so they could walk back home. No one at least admits anything after that, and the trip can properly begin.
They’re heading towards South, towards Gwangju and Mokpo, driving without hurry and without too precise destination. The road is long, stretching ahead endlessly and taking them through mountains and hills and beautiful countryside. It’s springtime, the sun is shining warmly and they’ve got all the time in the world.
The van they have is sympathetically old and shabby, its windows full of random stickers and scribbles. But it’s just a perfect size for their bunch; they’ve borrowed it from Jaebum’s uncle. That’s partly why Jaebum does most of the driving, but he also likes it, even though it means he can’t be part of the shenanigans happening at the back of the car. But he gets to decide the music, which is fine enough for him. Youngjae, Mark and Jinyoung take turns in sitting next to him when they want a break from maknaes and Jackson at the back.
Jackson has a handheld camera recorder borrowed from one of his friends with him and has sworn to record everything during the trip. They let him fool around with the recorder and do smile and pose and make weird faces at him when he points it their way. Jackson makes Mark sing, Youngjae speak English, Jinyoung rap and Jaebum do cute faces and records it all while laughing from the bottom of his heart.
Eventually, when the afternoon is slowly turning into evening, Yugyeom, Bambam and Jackson fall asleep against each other’s shoulders and the car is wrapped in a rare but very calming silence that’s only broken by the low hum of the traffic and silent music from the radio. Jinyoung lifts a book that he’s been keeping in his lap on the seat next to him. He took the book just in case he’d have a chance to read a little in the car – of course he hasn’t had a chance, and now he doesn’t feel like reading. He leans back against the backrest and the earphone that Mark gave him a moment ago almost falls off. He readjusts it (it’s playing some American r’n’b artist who he doesn’t know) and leans just a bit closer to the other boy sitting next to him. The sky behind the car windows is turning golden from the evening sun. Jinyoung has no idea where they are or how long they’ve still got to go today. The scenery’s flashing by outside and he’s suddenly feeling very sleepy, too.
Jinyoung turns his eyes to Jaebum, thinking that he should maybe ask if the older can still drive or whether they should have a break. Jinyoung looks and sees a small, mint green parakeet sitting on top of the steering wheel between Jaebum’s hands. The car hits a small bump on the road, and Jinyoung blinks, and the bird is gone.
That’s weird, he thinks and looks out of the window again. He feels Mark’s head drop against his shoulder and it’s not long until he gives in to the sleepiness, closing his eyes and drifting off.
The road is endless and they’ve got all the time in the world.
orangegreenlove, you're up!
