First shiritori ever *nervous excited* I was wondering why Date suddenly changed his jersey number and this came out :P
“Doesn't have to be one.” Miyadate murmured as he stretched himself.
“Hmm?” Watanabe replied, there were only the two of them in the dressing room and he knew Miyadate well enough that the other would not just talk to himself.
“The basketball jersey number. I don't have to be 01.” Miyadate elaborated.
Watanabe hummed. The Juniors manager had just came into the room, asking them about the number they would want to put on their jerseys. Watanabe had answered “55” easily, the same number from Shounentachi. But Miyadate had remained quiet, finally asking the manager for more time to consider.
“Then?” Watanabe prompted, rubbing more serum onto his face.
“I'm thinking of 4.”
Watanabe finally turned to look at Miyadate. “What happened to being the number one in the world? Have the aliens from the universe abduct the ambitious Date-sama?”
“Hey!” Miyadate reached over to punch Watanabe’s shoulder lightly and the latter laughed, punching Miyadate back.
When the laughter subsided, Miyadate turned serious again. “I'm kind of like the fourth member in Snow Man, aren't I? In Johnny’s web, in the way our names are usually listed – Hikaru, Fukka, you, me, Sakuma, Abe-chan.”
“Uh huh.” Watanabe nodded his head, still unsure of where this was going.
“I'm thinking, I rather be the fourth with all of you, than being the first without any of you.”
Watanabe looked at Miyadate carefully, he could see the younger’s sincerity in those words.
Watanabe finally smiled, his heart warm. “We’re a team. Glad you’ve got that sorted out.”
