[TEAM ONE] to make a home

no warnings, except it's not edited.

"Too small, too large, too tacky... Ooh, but this one... this one seems perfect. What do you say?"

"Sure, why not?" Sehun says. "Let's get that table for our living room."

Baekhyun stares at the same furniture he has approved just a second ago and shakes his head.

"No, it's no good," he says. "Let's look for another design."

Sehun frowns. It's been going on like this for at least an hour, but it feels more like an eternity. Honestly, he doesn't understand why Baekhyun had to drag him along to Ikea when he had said beforehand that he would be okay with whatever Baekhyun would be bringing home. He trusts Baekhyun's sense of taste, but more than anything, he is indifferent when it comes to living space. All he really needs is a nice bed, meaning a comfy mattress and fluffly blankets and pillows. It doesn't even need to be a pretty designed piece of furniture.

Looking around the large store, Sehun has no clue where to begin searching for what Baekhyun might be looking for. He knows they need new furniture, but he has no idea what kind of interior design Baekhyun is aiming for. Minimalist? Modern? Vintage?

And this is just the first furnishing house on the list among many. If they spend five hours in this place alone, how much more time will they need to look through all ten or more furniture stores that Baekhyun had listed? He needs to put an end to this.

"I'm tired," Sehun whines softly in an attempt to look and sound cute and pitiful. He even tugs at Baek's coat like a child would, hoping that it would tug at Baekhyun's heartstrings.

"Oh, stop being whiny," Baekhyun sighs, not paying attention to his younger boyfriend. His eyes are still roaming the items put on display, hands busy with rubbing over the furniture or knocking on it in a way that almost seems professional, but Sehun knows Baekhyun doesn't know much about quality when it comes to furniture. He just likes putting on airs.

"And you stop being so... so perfectionist!" He huffs, but the moment the words leave his lips, he regrets them. It ignites the same discussion they've had at least five times within 24 hours.

"Oh Sehun," Baekhyun says warningly. Baekhyun's disappointed gaze alone is enough to make Sehun crumble and feel all small and being in the wrong. He knows he isn't in the wrong though. It's just that their opinions clash sometimes.

"Don't tell me that this is no big deal," Baekhyun starts. Sehun knows better than to interrupt; he keeps his mouth shut until the other finishes.

"We're moving in together, and this is not only our very first apartment, but also our own apartment. We're supposed to live there, so I want everything to be perfect. I want my partner to want to come home after work every night and want to stay in our cozy home. I want us to be happy there."

Those words sound so much like what Mrs. Oh would say, Sehun thinks, and his mother, of course, is always right. She is the smartest person he knows, not in the way a genius with an outstanding IQ would be, but in the way a mother would be - someone who has accumulated enough experiences to draw worldly wisdom. It's that kind of worldly wisdom that is needed to master life and relationships in life.

At the same time, there's another thing that is just as true as what Baekhyun has told him, and that is what his mother has taught him as well.

"My cozy home is wherever you are," Sehun says quietly. How many times will he need to repeat himself for Baekhyun to understand that he doesn't need anything fancy? How come Baekhyun doesn't understand that he is fine with whichever way his boyfriend wants to decorate their living space? All Sehun needs is having Baekhyun by his side; there's nothing more he could wish for.

"That's very nice to hear," Baekhyun retorts. "But I still want you to like our home."

Baekhyun is insistent, but Sehun is just equally stubborn.

"And home is where you are. I'll like it, as long as you're with me."

Baekhyun shoots him a death glare, but his lips are traitorous. They are quirking up just the slightest, so Sehun knows he's not fighting a lost battle. Baekhyun is easily won over.

"Really, Baek," he whispers. "I'm okay with anything. If pink princess bedrooms make you happy, I'm okay with decorating our house like that, too."

This time, Baekhyun is glaring at him for real.

It was a joke, obviously, but after Baekhyun had declared that Sehun was not to set foot into their apartment until the day they move in, he is just a tiny bit worried. Baekhyun was known as one who never backed down on challenges, and although Sehun was 99% certain his boyfriend would not turn their future home into a pink princess paradise, there was one percent of doubt left. After all, Baekhyun might have done so out of spite, just to punish him. The satisfaction he would gain from that might be bigger than Baekhyun's hatred for the color pink.

So when Baekhyun opens the door with a shit eating grin on his face, Sehun grows more nervous. What would await him after passing the threshold? Absolutely nothing. Literally nothing. Going through the rooms, Sehun only finds set of table and four chairs in the kitchen apart from the cupboards, and there's only a wardrobe in their bedroom. There's no furniture in the living room either, exceot for the shelves and cupboards. There's not even a TV.

"You see," Baekhyun says as he hugs Sehun from the back. He must be standing on his tip toes to rest his chin on Sehun's shoulder. "I looked up minimalist lifestyle on the internet, and I thought it to be the most fitting for us. Let's refrain from buying unnecessarities so we can focus more on us."

Needless to say that Sehun quickly disagrees. He goes shopping with Baekhyun the next day, looking for furniture and anything to fill their empty home with warmth and comfort.
