[team three] someone to stay

First of all, I’m sorry about the delay! I’ve been fighting with my internet, it’s been flickering on and off and I keep having to power the router and modem off only for it to flake out on me, but anyway, I digress.

The whole thing about Edward/Jacob and just a general re-envisioning of Twilight in general is something that’s been on my personal “let’s think about this” list for a while. I actually got the idea for this scene back in February, as prompted by a sonic word, but I never got past the first few lines. This is supposed to be longer, but I want to post it before my wifi dies again (though fingers crossed it’s on the mend) and I’m already anticipating enough formatting headache with my phone and annoying quotation mark formatting. The title is from Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s song of the same name.

“Nice ride.”

Bella is basically on the ground, laughing, and Jacob is fed up with the entire situation. He reaches for the keys to turn off the ignition, forgetting again that it's a push start, and doesn't even bother to swallow his swearing.

Bella, the traitor that she is, just keeps laughing. It would serve her right if she choked. Jacob just sighs, sliding off the seat and letting the door slam behind him. The gravel crunches beneath his feet. Bella looks up from where she's lying, half on the grass, half on the driveway, her mouth still creased in a smile.

“Do you really hate it that much?” she asks, eyes following him as he flops down beside her. The sun is warm on his face, and he closes his eyes.

“No,” he admits, eyes screwed shut, so that even the veins, red roots of trees, are dark. Fingers brush his arm, barely grazing the skin. When he relents and looks over, Bella’s expression is thoughtful.

“He's just scared,” she says, and Jacob nods.

“I guess I can't really blame him.” He glances back at the the shiny black eyesore and rolls his eyes. “Even though I want to.”

Bella laughs, punching him on the arm, and Jacob can't help but join in at the ridiculousness of it all.
