[team four] party town
i've wanted to write black mirror's san junipero AU for an eternity already, and this shall be a quick, short start for that.
The idea was to just look around the town a bit. To feel the vibe, to watch the people. Not difficult at all. And yet, when Chanyeol was walking along what seemed to be the main road, he felt so out of place.
It was sunset and the street was full of neon glow, upbeat music and young people all swarming in their own groups or in pairs, hurrying to the various clubs and bars the area was full of. Chanyeol was walking among them, the young and pretty people with their high hairdos and flashy party outfits, and suddenly he was very aware of his worn-out denim shorts, old Guns’n’Roses shirt and round glasses. Not exactly a party outfit.
Chanyeol came to a crossroads and on the opposite street corner saw another club. It was called The Trap and it didn’t have a huge line outside of it, so Chanyeol decided to give it a try. Since he was there anyway. Time to see what all the hype was about.
He walked past a small crowd of people on the entrance, a group of giggling girls with glittery makeup, a pair who were eating each other’s faces by the door, and a guy and a girl right next to them arguing rather loudly.
“Excuse me,” Chanyeol mumbled as he slipped past them. He kind of wanted to turn around already but forced himself to walk further in.
There was a dance floor. A bar counter. Seat, tables and couches. Lots of people. Chanyeol stood awkwardly by a pillar and took the place in, looking around a bit helplessly, not really knowing where to go or what to do. He saw a separate area with game machines and that piqued his interest a little. Maybe they had Pac-Man or Galaga…
Someone bumped into Chanyeol from behind, and he heard swearing and then couple of sorrys. He turned around and saw the guy from the door, the one who had been arguing.
“Hey, sorry,” the guy said hurriedly and then grabbed Chanyeol’s arm. “Can you do me a favor? Go along with what I say, okay?”
“What?”
“Just, go along, please!”
“Baekhyun!” The girl from the door marched up to them, seemingly irritated.
The guy rolled his eyes. “I told you Sooyoung, just cut it out and leave me alone?”
“So you’re really just ditching me like this?” The girl swinged her long hair off her shoulder and crossed her arms. She was wearing a short, glittery dress and electric blue high boots. She was very pretty, and very angry.
“There are lots of other fish in the sea,” the guy said and took a small step closer to Chanyeol, putting an arm around his shoulder. “And I just met a friend I haven’t seen in ages, I want to catch up with him.”
“And who’s he?” the girl moved her piercing eyes to Chanyeol, looking at him up and down.
“Uh…”
“Chanyeol, nice to meet you,” Chanyeol said. “We’re school buddies.” While saying that, he hoped the girl wouldn’t be interested enough to start interrogating them about their supposed friendship.
She wasn’t.
“Huh. Well, I’ll see you around later, Baekhyun?”
The guy shrugged. “Sure.”
They both watched her walk away in silence. Once she was gone among the crowd, Chanyeol snorted while the guy let out a relieved laugh.
“Thanks, man! ‘School buddies’, that was smooth. You saved me!”
He was smiling widely at Chanyeol. He was half a head shorter than Chanyeol but seemed to have a presence of at least two people. He was somehow very charming. Black hair (with a mullet) stylishly up, tight black pants and a loose, colorful shirt with enough buttons open to give a glance of his chest.
“My pleasure,” Chanyeol managed to say and smiled back at the guy.
“So… Chanyeol? Is that right?”
Chanyeol nodded.
“I’m Baekhyun, like you probably heard. Nice to meet you. Let me get you a drink as a thanks.”
“O-okay,” Chanyeol said while Baekhyun was already grabbing his arm and pulling him towards the bar counter.
“Two rum cokes,” Baekhyun said to the bartender as he sat down by the counter. Chanyeol sat next to him and panicked a little.
“Oh no, I’ll just have coke, I don’t really–“
“C’mon! This once, for me.”
So Chanyeol had a rum coke in his hand in a matter of minutes. It burned a bit on the way down but not too much. It was actually quite good after the first mouthful.
“You’re making funny faces,” Baekhyun observed, amused. “Not used to alcohol?”
“Not really,” Chanyeol admitted. He glanced up at Baekhyun, at his nice blinding smile, and quickly lowered his eyes down at his drink again. How come he was so radiating?
“So, Chanyeol, what brings you to the town? You don’t really look like a regular here.”
“Uh, yeah, it’s actually my first time here.”
“Oh really?” Baekhyun raised his brows and took a sip of his drink. “A tourist?”
“Something like that.”
Chanyeol busied himself with the drink again. Baekhyun was watching him and it made him feel uneasy. What did the other think of him and his awkwardness? He didn’t have time to worry about that any further since the song changed to Michael Jackson’s newest song and Baekhyun jumped up from his seat.
“I love this song, we have to dance to it!”
“What? We?” Chanyeol felt flustered. “As in, together?”
“Yeah! C’mon!” And he dragged Chanyeol to the dance floor.
That was one of the most horrifying things that could happen to him. Chanyeol didn’t dance. He wasn’t a dancer at all. And there he was, among all the cool people, and Baekhyun, trying to desperately sway to the music and not think how stupid he must look like. Baekhyun was supportive, smiling encouragingly at Chanyeol while he swayed his hips and moved his body to the music. He looked good doing that. Chanyeol thought that at times, Baekhyun probably danced a bit too close to him, he felt like people were looking…
The song lasted forever. At the end of it, Chanyeol felt like he couldn’t do it anymore so he hurriedly apologized to Baekhyun and strode away from the dance floor. He saw a back door and pushed through it to the alley behind the club.
The night air felt nicely cool after the stuffy indoors. Chanyeol took deep breaths and tried to calm himself.
It didn’t take long until the door opened and Baekhyun stepped out as well.
“Hey, why did you leave? Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. It’s just… It felt like everyone was looking. You know, two guys dancing together…”
Baekhyun didn’t laugh at him, luckily. He looked thoughtful. “I don’t think no one was looking. This is a party town, no one really cares about that kind of stuff.”
Chanyeol said nothing, just nodded. He was thankful that Baekhyun was so patient and friendly. The other inched a bit closer to him, leaning up against the wall.
“You wanna go back in?”
“Not really,” Chanyeol admitted.
“Want to go somewhere else? My place is actually quite near…”
Chaneyol felt Baekhyun’s hand on his hip. From there, it slowly slid lower along his thigh– Chanyeol’s brain short-circuited and he hastily stepped farther from Baekhyun.
“No, I can’t–. I’m sorry. I actually… I have a fiancée.”
“Oh.” Baekhyun looked politely surprised. “Is your fiancée here right now?”
“No, but…” Chanyeol actually felt a bit conflicted. “I just can’t.”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” Baekhyun said and smiled.
Chanyeol felt like something had shifted between them and he felt bad about that. But that’s how things usually went for him, anyway.
“Um, I think I’m gonna go now,” he said and pointed back towards the main road. Baekhyun would probably have better time without him.
“Already?” Baekhyun pouted. He wasn’t only charming and hot, but cute, too. “Okay. It was nice meeting you, Chanyeol.”
His smile was warm and genuine. Chanyeol kind of wanted to cry. “See you around?”
“Yeah, see you.” He really hoped so.
Chanyeol started walking towards the main road. When he turned around after a couple of steps, Baekhyun wasn’t by the door anymore.
The night was still young.
damagea, your turn! :3
