[Team Four] And then there was you
Hi, I'll start travelling today again but I definitely didn't want to skip soooo I decided to write something quick and random now! :D Continuation for my HIMYM!AU lmao.
Messy, chaotic, disastrous. That and everything between what the current situation was.
It was his first day as a course assistant, and of course, of course, he was about to fuck that up because of simply being late. If the professor Kim Heechul wasn't already making it hard enough for Baekhyun by forcing him to evaluate all mid-exams and hold the introduction lecture, but Baekhyun swore to himself the professor would make it even harder for him if he was going to be late from the said lecture. When it came to his courses, Heechul wasn't afraid to give a cold revenge if needed.
If every university had to have their weird slash borderline crazy slash out-of-the-ordinary-if-you-know-what-I-mean professor, Heechul was the one holding the crown at their campus. For a professor, he had quite aggressive mood swings, which Baekhyun had unfortunately already witnessed. The professor had already managed to call Baekhyun both his savior (since Baekhyun had agreed to hold the introduction lecture) and his peeve (since Baekhyun had dared to ask about the schedule of the course so he would know what to talk about) during one conversation. Heechul also liked to hang out with students in local pubs after seminar sessions, and had a very very questionable taste in clothing.
And that professor was Baekhyun's boss now. Or kind of. But the orders were coming from Heechul and Baekhyun was the one to obey, no matter how weird that boss was, so Baekhyun had decided that was an appropriate label to call him.
Yet, in that moment Baekhyun had no time to think about the titles or the weirdness of their professor more, because he had to make it to the lecture in time. He was about to graduate in four months, this was the first real job that had something to do with his major, and there was no room for mistakes.
He remembered Heechul had told him the lecture hall would be in the southern building, classroom 9 or something. For his luck, Baekhyun hadn't really been a skipper during his university years, so he had quite a strong remembrance of the place. Too bad that he was running out of time, though, so he had to speed up his steps even more.
In the worst case scenario, the students who had showed up would get tired of waiting for their course assistant to appear so they would leave. And then they would make a complaint and Baekhyun would lose his job. Which he really couldn't afford. He had bills to pay, one big fat student loan in his bank account waiting, and he desperately needed to have this kind of job experience.
By the time he reached the door, he didn't hesitate or take a deep breath before pulling it open.
“Good morning!”
Dozens of heads turned around in the auditorium to see their course assistant coming from the door at the back of the hall.
“We have no time to lose, I'm sorry for being a few seconds late, but the bus was late. You all know how buses in this city are – they are so unclassy they should re-name all bus companies as Marxist Utopia”, Baekhyun kept babbling while walking down the stairs to the front. He mentally patted himself for managing to throw a funny punchline already during such a rushed entrance. That was what all the cool teachers did; they threw funny jokes about their major, and that was the key how the students would remember those things in the future as well.
Too bad, that this joke didn't create wave of laughter among the audience. Only one low chuckle coming from the back could be heard aloud. Well shit.
“Anyway,” Baekhyun continued after he tossed his case on the table, ignoring the awkward silence.
He turned around to meet the faces. “I'm Byun Baekhyun, your course assistant for this introduction course. It's a pleasure to meet you all, you must be excited and maybe nervous. But no worries! Today I'm only going to tell a little bit about the schedule, talk about the evaluation and teach you some basic concepts about the interesting world of sociology. And not to forget, of course I will prepare you to meet your professor by giving tips how to handle him. But no worries again! Professor Kim Heechul is the best professor in sociology and--”
A blonde girl with a small nose and round glasses sitting in the front row raised her hand. Baekhyun nodded at her.
“Sorry to interrupt, Byun Baekhyun-ssi,” she started cheekily, not with the nicest tone. “But I'm afraid to inform you this is not a sociology class. You're in the wrong auditorium. This is one of the advanced special courses for the music technology.”
“W-what?”
Baekhyun gulped.
“I believe you're looking for an auditorium IX. With roman numbers,” the girl continued with a bored face, rolling a pen between her fingers. “But that's okay. Happens for all the rookies. You must be new.”
Baekhyun was out in a twinkling of an eye.
*****
“I can't believe you got mistaken with a classroom,” he chuckled, then bursting into loud convulsive laughter once again. He clapped his hands in such an adorable way, and there were small tears in the corners of his eyes since he couldn't stop laughing.
Baekhyun punched his arm playfully. “Don't tell me it never happened to you! Besides, you laughed at my joke so at least I was entertaining.”
“Oh yeah, that was the first time we met and I already thought you were cute with your jokes. And so damn handsome I almost fell down from my chair. Man, it's always so funny to recall that day.”
“Technically,” Baekhyun corrected him. “We didn't meet back then. You only saw me but I never saw you. Think, how crazy it is! What if we had randomly encountered each other before that and maybe even after that, and fate made sure it would happen as many times as needed, as long as we would eventually end up talking to each other?”
“That'd be weird,” he answered softly, cupping Baekhyun's cheek and then kissing him softly. As he pulled back, Baekhyun gently rubbed the tip of his nose with his, then kissed it, and his shining eyes opened to meet Baekhyun's.
“But I'm so damn lucky if fate worked like that.”
Baekhyun smiled. He swore he was the lucky one.
Aaaaand you're up,
springmaid!
