[team one] between the bookshelves
Uh, so. I attempted to write Todobaku and it didn't go well. I didn't even finish this. Please don't look at me /hides face/
“Smad? The hell is that?”
Bakugo’s voice slices through Todoroki’s concentration, and he glances down to the paper his classmate has his eyes trained on. Todoroki realizes the mistake immediately.
“A typo,” he answers, flipping his pencil over to erase the errant “s” before Bakugo can spit out more complaints.
Bakugo lets out an annoyed exhale, reminding Todoroki of a caged bull ready to dash forward on a red-eyed rampage as soon as the gates open. They’re sitting at a table in the library, the tall bookshelves on either side of them feeling like walls to a cage. He suspects it’s only the hovering threat of being banned from the space for noise that holds Bakugo back.
“Wake the fuck up. What, are you doing this in your sleep?” Bakugo complains, snatching away the paper to inspect it more closely for mistakes. “I don’t want you dragging down my grade just because I’m stuck with you for this, Icy Hot.”
Todoroki finds partner assignments the most exasperating part of school in general. This one with Bakugo is no different. The English assignment from Present Mic is something that could definitely be completed individually, but the class had been split into small groups anyway. Todoroki vaguely remembers Iida enthusiastically saying something about the benefits of learning to work together in all aspects of their education, but he missed most of the class rep’s impromptu motivational speech once Bakugo started yelling about his assigned partner.
“I’m going to write the next section,” Bakugo snarls without leaving room for argument. “Since you seem to be half-assing it so far.” There’s a paused and then he adds under his breath, but still loud enough to hear, “like everything.”
He stands up, ignoring the sound of the chair scraping against the tile floor in the quiet library. “I guess there’s no reason for me to stay then.”
“Don’t run away, coward,” Bakugo spits out, matching Todoroki’s exasperated expression. “You don’t get to leave until we finish this damn assignment.”
Todoroki raises one eyebrow at the audacity of Bakugo thinking he can order him around, and then he turns on his heel and strides out of the library, not looking back even as Bakugo starts hollering insults after him.
Getting the opportunity to push his partner’s buttons is really the only redeeming quality of this assignment.
