[Team One] detour

627 words, random fluff, OCs in an OU that I'm working on, G-rated?

Now she’d just need to figure out how to tell her. How unfortunate.

Vi scurried across Tia's lap, yarn clutched between his fangs. He raised a tiny claw to pull on Tia's collar and wriggled his black bean nose, informing Tia of the unfortunate reality that it was all gone.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," she sighed, giving his little weasel head a gentle scratch, which he leaned into with a pleased squeal.

Tia put down her knitting needles, tied off the excess thread, then sent Vi off with a gentle flourish of her wrist and a brief, off-white glow.

Faiza had absolutely insisted Tia bring everything she needed. And Tia had listened, carefully doing the math... but she'd forgotten to account for the summer humidity. Enough humidity shrinks wool, and Tia realized it had been a mistake to have even said she'd be able to do that precisely, what with the amount of shawls that needed to be made.

She wasn't going to take an extra trip into town lightly, nor would she allow Tia to make the trip alone, or... inherently conspicuously, is how Tia would describe it.

Just then, Faiza opened the door and kicked it open with a sigh, her face glossy with oil and sweat.

Her olive eyes met Tia's and her frown softened.

"Don't usually see your hands idle. Finish all the shawls?"

Tia shook her head and held up the tied-off shawl, hiding her face behind it (though she was too tall for that to actually work).

"Ah, ran out of yarn?" Faiza pressed her thumb into her forehead.

Tia nodded. "Sorry..."

Faiza wiped the sweat off her face with a towel, and sighed.

"No, no... it's the evening, and I could use tomorrow off."

Tia looked up at her wife and felt her tensed-up cheeks softening. Perhaps she hadn't needed to worry.

Faiza sat down next to her. "I'm just... worried. About the way things are."

"Yeah, I know." Tia pressed her lips together and hugged her legs to her chest.

"I know you know. And that's why we're partners."

Tia nodded and leaned her head on Faiza's shoulders.

"Now let's get going."

With a flourish and a glow that would've concerned the entire population of any other village, they flew off to set up camp near the city.

They returned to their cabin the next night, Faiza holding two bags full of yarn and Tia clutching a smaller bag to her chest.

"Everything was fine!" Tia said, her voice singsong as she slipped off her shawl.

"We don't know when it's not gonna be." Faiza tore off her own, got a whiff of the sweat, and aired it out, forcefully snapping her wrists. "That one guard stared at me for far too long..."

"But he didn't keep looking, and that's what's important!" Tia insisted, opening her small bag and untying the string around the sack contained inside.

Faiza snapped her head back at her, incredulous. "You seriously digging into those already? It's midnight, Tia."

Tia pulled out a single daisy-shaped candy. "They're pretty, and they taste good."

Into her mouth the rock candy went. Delicious.

Faiza groaned and crossed her arms, slamming her ass on the bed.

"I can't believe you're eating those! They're the symbol of the Citadel's hypocrisy. Naming themselves after flowers, prettying themselves up as all sweet and pastel and wonderful, and yet they're out murdering our friends every day. It's disgusting, really. Bitter ivy, that's what they're more like."

"But these sure do taste good," Tia remarked, simply, enjoying the sweet aftertaste of the candy and tucking it in the nightstand.

Faiza stared at her for a bit, then laughed and shook her head. "Tia?"

"Hmm?"

She kissed her on the cheek.

"Don't ever change."
