[Team Three] Gold

Hi! Even though I don't feel very happy with this piece, I decided to post it because I'm tired of skipping -.- So! Here you have a little Victor character study.

(Yuri on Ice; G; 281 words)

A medal. Gold, round, with his name spelled in the back in foreign characters that he understands but which have come to mean nothing.

Victor Nikiforov.

Another one for the collection in his apartment, to decorate the walls. He will put it up there with her sisters, gold and silver and more gold, and then he will ignore their existence until an echo of almost-forgotten longing makes him look at them once again.

The echo will peter off and die before long, and Victor will frown and turn his back on them again when he remembers they don’t mean anything. Not anymore.

They used to. They used to be a recognition of his efforts, another crown for his victory on the ice (although Victor has always had a preference for crowns made of flowers rather than gold). Now they are a symbol of loneliness, of the bleak view from the top he’s conquered. The top where he’s stagnated once he started to realize there’s nowhere else to go.

Another medal that means nothing to him; another medal he’s revered for.

Victor honestly prefers the slobbering kisses of his beloved dog. Makka doesn’t care about the medals or world records and it’s honestly a breath of fresh air.

He’s tired.

Maybe it is time to think about retiring.

Maybe…

Another medal, another party. But it’s different this time.

There’s a boy, no, a young man. He’s drunk. He’s a whirlwind and an explosion and a big bang, and he changes Victor’s life with only a dance and a smile.

The view from the top suddenly changes as the sun comes out, and Victor knows that he will never be the same again.

It's your turn, [livejournal.com profile] shinysylver ! :)
