[Team four] Pine

I binged six seasons of Teen Wolf in a little less than two weeks, during my exams. This is me trying to grasp some of the characters, and also get back into writing.

The sunlight seeps through the navy-blue cloth of their tent, heating up the small sleeping space. A thin layer of sweat makes the fabric of Theo's sleeping bag stick easily to his bare skin. His legs feels like they're trapped. He can't get rid of that pesky layer of polyester that clings to him like gum. Still more asleep than awake, Theo tries to kick his feet a couple of times, needs this suffocating heat to pass, but it feels like the more he struggles, the more he gets stuck. His frantic movements are making him sweat even more, the air in the tent feels like it's adhering itself to the roof of his mouth, making it difficult to breathe. There's a sound of a zipper, a gust of fresh, colder air brushing softly over Theo's skin. Fabric rustles rest to him, movement, and then—

"It's ok, it's ok. I got you," a voice says gently, a cool hand finds his cheek. There's a slight pressure by his side, a sound of yet another zipper and then more cool air seeps into Theo's toasty sleeping bag. Suddenly there's space for him to move in. Theo sits up quickly, eyes opening wide as he takes in his surroundings. The first thing he notices is that the mouth of the tent is zipped open, one of the curtains are pushed up, letting fresh air into the tent. It's sunny outside and the scent of pine fills Theo's nose. He's startled by movement next to him but calms quickly when he sees a gigantic mess of brown hair and kind blue eyes looking back at him.

Liam, who had freed him from his polyester prison, has crawled back into his own sleeping bag, lying on his front as he peeks sideways at Theo. He still has that sleepy, ruffled look and Theo thinks he woke Liam up with his excessive moving and flailing. A gentle smile is sent his way. Theo feels himself relaxing even further.

"Good morning," Theo says. "Thank you for—"

"For freeing you from the jaws of your deadly sleeping bag? You're welcome," Liam grins boyishly, eyes gleaming with mirth. Theo rolls his eyes at him, reaching out to ruffle Liam's stupid hair that feels fluffy and warm underneath his fingertips. Liam's face sobers.

"Nightmare?" Theo isn't sure. It wasn't a secret that his most frequent nightmare was of the time he was imprisoned underground, even though that it had been almost three years since he had been freed. Some nights he still wakes up, screaming his lungs out, drenched in sweat, in the process of shifting. Back when he was still sleeping in his car, he had occasionally woken up with his claws ripping into the back of the front passenger seat. It's better— He's better now, much better. He's in a better place with better people.

"Can't remember," Theo says honestly, shrugging. Liam's usually readable face is unreadable. If he wants to prod further in Theo's brain, he doesn't show it. "I think I just got too hot."

"You're really hot," Liam agrees easily, effectively dissolving every bit of tension and softening the heavy feeling in Theo's chest. Theo could always rely on Liam to brighten his day in every possible way, and for that he was eternally grateful.
