baekhyun + some chanyeol, G, 449 words

It was the first time in a while that Baekhyun actually went out after work. His colleague had invited him to this bar of his friend’s, in a small bar district, which he claimed offered an ”authentic Japan experience”.

He was promised snacks, cheap drinks and a good atmosphere, so he’d decided to give it a go. He wouldn’t get to know local people by sitting at home every night.

So he let his colleague take him to the bar, and followed him (or more like squeezed himself) through the sliding wooden door into the teeny tiny standing bar with way too many people. It was one of those places with around eight seats along the bar counter, but that night there seemed to be al twice as many people.

Baekhyun was left standing awkwardly beside the door since he just couldn’t move anywhere. He exchanged some nods and smiles with the people closest to him. His colleague didn’t seem to mind the tightness at all and managed to order them beers over people’s shoulders.

”It’s getting too popular, this place,” he told Baekhyun. ”But don’t worry, some people will surely move to other bars at some point.”

Baekhyun thought he understood the popularity. Though small, the bar really did have a nice atmosphere, with some retro looking posters up on the walls, fairy lights here and there and even a small disco ball on the ceiling. He liked these small Japanese bars and wished he spoke the language better to chat with the staff and other customers.

After some time, his colleague’s hunch proved right as some people left and Baekhyun actually managed to move to sit by the counter. He watched people leaving on the other side of the bar and only then noticed the man sitting by the wall over there. He was the tall, lanky guy from the cafe in Shin-Okubo. He was waving goodbyes to the leavers and then turned back towards the bar.

Baekhyun barely had time to wonder whether the guy would recognize him when their eyes met and, indeed, he smiled at him and even called a quick ”hello!” in Korean. Baekhyun smiled back and, seeing that his colleague was immersed in a deep conversation with the bartender and another customer, Baekhyun got up and walked around the counter to the other end.

”Can I sit here?” Baekhyun asked, pointing at the vacant stool next to the guy. ”I’d like to chat but my Japanese is very limited.”

”Of course,” the guy smiled. His voice was surprisingly deep and smile radiant.

Oh, lucky me, Baekhyun couldn’t help thinking. He sat down beside the guy and ordered another drink.
