[Team One] dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a teddy bear
~1000 words of Kirk/McCoy "boyfriend sweatshirt" trope set in the Alternate series of movies (post-Beyond). Except... replace sweatshirt with those weird long sleeve uniform shirts that probably aren't that comfortable but... it worked for the prompt XD
I've never written for this fandom before and it shows, but I also couldn't resist.
“You look hot in blue,” Carol teased before running off to change her own clothes. The green goo they had been sprayed with wasn’t acidic (thankfully), but it was impossible to remove and stunk worse than the cow manure back in Iowa.
“Oh don’t be a baby,” Bones chided, stabbing Jim none-too-gently with a hypospray filled with every antihistamine Jim wasn’t allergic to. The green goo was already starting to make Jim’s skin redden. “I didn’t have time to run to your quarters before you beamed back, so I grabbed what was closest.”
“From your laundry?” Jim grumbled, smelling the royal blue shirt deeply. It didn’t smell too much, but there was Bones’s distinct aftershave.
Jim tried to not let it show how much he found that comforting. Now how much he liked that the shirt was just a little too big on him. It made him feel a bit juvenile— finding comfort in your boyfriend’s shirts.
“Well, if someone didn’t make it a habit of getting his ripped every mission.”
“It’s not like I put it on my to-do list.”
“It may as well be,” Bones grumbled, “it never feels like a mission is complete until you’ve ripped one.”
“Aww,” Jim teased. “You can’t say you don’t like it. Just a little bit.”
“Well… it does make it easier to inspect those scratches you tend to get.” Bones sighed, motioning with his head. “C’mon. You’re off duty until we know for sure that goo isn’t gonna cause a bigger reaction than a bad sunburn.”
“What about you?” Jim asked.
“Alpha shift ended while you were away. I’m off duty too for a while.”
Jim grinned as they exited the transporter room, waving at Scotty as they left. “So you wanna get a drink or something?”
Bones huffed, but Jim could see the ghost of a smile. “That line work for you?”
“It tends to. Depends on how thirsty you are.”
“Well, since I know we drank the last of the brandy you had stashed away in your room, I’m curious to find out where you’re gonna find a drink.”
“Your room, of course,” Jim grinned, glancing around the deserted corridor before taking Bones’s hand.
Bones glanced down briefly, eyeing the empty corridor as well before squeezing Jim’s hand. “Alright. Should have known you sniffed out my stash.”
“Ah, I didn’t. I just know you.” Jim laughed at Bones’s glare, walking beside him to the CMO’s quarters.
As soon as they stepped inside, Jim couldn’t hold back any longer and practically plastered himself to Bone’s side. “Missed you.”
“Missed you two, darlin',” Bone drawled, laying his PADD on the desk nearby. “Sorry, I couldn’t go with you.”
Jim shrugged. “It wasn’t supposed to be anything more than a diplomatic run. Carol was just there to check out their long-range missile detection sensors.”
And then they found themselves running through the jungle-like forest surrounding the capital after a misunderstanding involving socks, of all things. Spock and Uhura had managed to smooth over the issue just after Jim and Carol found themselves sprayed with green goo, courtesy of the local fauna.
Humming, Bones turned to his closet, pulling out his own secret stash of brandy from behind a few shirts. “And how is Carol? I haven’t gotten to catch up with her since she beamed back on board.”
“She’s fine,” Jim said, collapsing on Bones’s very comfortable couch and picking up one of the padds he left there a few days ago when he had last visited Bones’s room. “Disappointed she missed Altamid.”
“Really? Can’t imagine why.” Bones poured two glasses and took a seat next to Jim, passing one to him. “No, really. I can’t imagine. That place was a nightmare. And not just because I had to pilot a damn tiny ship in space with Spock as my backseat driver.”
Jim huffed out a chuckle, reaching over to the table next to the couch and pulling out the reading glasses he knew Bones kept there for him. “Well, maybe that’s the part she missed. Your adorable grumbling.”
“Ha ha, hilarious.”
There were quite a number of reports to catch up on after being gone for nearly two days, and Jim skimmed through them to find the ones with the highest priority. Taking a sip of brandy, Jim leaned against Bones’s side, getting comfortable. Bones raised an arm to wrap around Jim’s shoulders, looking at his own padd.
“You planning on giving me back my shirt, darlin'?” Bones asked, not taking his eyes off his screen.
The shirt was nice and warm, so the answer was no. But Bones didn’t need to know that quite yet.
“Aww c’mon, don’t you think I look good in blue?”
Bones glanced at him, a grin halfway on his face. “You look good in my clothes.”
“Oooh,” Jim’s smile grew and he sat his padd down and climbed fully into Bones’s lap. “You have a clothing kink Bones? Maybe I should find some of your other clothes to try on. I think I’d look good in one of those—”
He was cut off by Bones’s lips on his, and he sighed softly into it. He felt Bones’s hand card through his hair, supporting his head as Jim deepened the kiss.
Bones let out a quiet sound before pulling away. Jim chased him with a few more light kisses before allowing them to separate.
“I just like you looking comfortable,” Bones explained, kissing Jim’s forehead. “And, maybe it’s a bit because it’s my shirt.”
Jim grinned, leaning down to cuddle up on Bones’s chest. “Then I suppose you won’t mind if I get a little more comfortable right here?”
He felt the chuckles vibrate around him. “Whatever you want, darlin’.”
next up is nichi! I'll tag you on discord, but your line is "Whatever you want, darlin'."
