slow on the uptake
slow on the uptake - sanada/hashimoto, 466 words
The disappointment was clearly written all over his face. Hashimoto tended not to have much of a game face in these situations after all (other situations though, well, the rest of ABC-Z could probably tell stories about Hashimoto’s game faces in more inappropriate situations).
“Sorry, Hasshi,” Sanada apologized. “Schedules aren’t what they used to before. Let’s try again another time? I’m sure there’ll be another opportunity!”
Hashimoto pouted, “You have Iitomo all the time though! And on the weekends, I’ll be on tour and you guys aren’t tagging along. I checked!”
“You’ll have the others, though? You know, Sakuma and everyone!” Sanada tried to cheer Hashimoto up again. “Compared to just me, that’s more fun, right?”
“You don’t get it,” Hashimoto crossed his arms and huffed. “Sanapi is stupid!” With that the younger male walked away again.
“Hey!” Sanada looked after the other. Then he turned to look at his partner, who was quietly sitting next to him in the changing room. “Yuuki, what was that all about? What did I do wrong?”
Nozawa looked up from the screen of his phone. “Think about it, Sanapi. If you wanted to laugh, have a good time while fooling around and maybe jam on your guitar along with somebody else on a bass, who would you want to ask?”
Sanada didn’t need to think about that for long, “Sakuma?”
“Right. So if you were looking forward to having fun with Sakkun and he suddenly had to cancel your plans, you’d be disappointed, right?” Nozawa continued. “So, if Hasshi wanted to catch up with somebody he hasn’t seen in a long time and wants their company…”
Realization seemed to dawn on Sanada. “He didn’t want to hang out just to hang out but he wanted to hang out with me? Like, to hang out with me for me?”
“There you go,” Nozawa turned his attention back to his phone again. A smile tugged on the corners of his lips when he heard Sanada shuffle out of the room.

“Hasshi!” Sanada ran down the corridor. “Wait!”
“I am not talking to you,” Hashimoto pouted.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way!” Sanada apologized. He stopped in front of the other. “I promise I’ll make time to hang out with you sometime soon! Just the two of us.”
Hashimoto gave Sanada a smile. “Mail me as soon as you know when you have time. I’ll make sure I’ll have time then as well.”
Sanada laughed softly, “Can you do that?”
Kawai came out of ABC-Z’s changing room just then, “Believe me, Sanapi. He knows how to make miracles happen. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.”
Smiling proudly, Hashimoto offered his fist to Sanada for a fist-bump. “Promise then?”
“Promise,” Sanada bumped his fist against Hashimoto’s with a smile.
