Sunbeams

"Date?"
Tamamori sighs and shifts his weight to the other foot, not feeling very charitable after standing for the better part of an hour (or two).
"Fourteenth," he replies and Miyata nods, turning back to scribble something else on the sheet of white paper he's filling in.
An tiny mewl arises from the fluffy bundle in Tamamori's arms, and he rolls his eyes as Miyata (finally) finishes scribbling and scrambles to his feet, scooping up the white ball of fur and rescuing Tamamori's shirt sleeve from its mouth.
"Sorry for making you wait for so long," he says sheepishly.
Tamamori thinks back to how they'd spend half the day exploring several pet shops, trudging up and down and up and down the same aisle over and over, until Miyata had decided to drag him to the adoption centre on the other side of town. His feet throb in reminder of the distance they've covered - the last time they'd hurt so badly was right after he took off his roller skates after their first ever concert - and he is very tempted to snap back a reply.
(He almost does, except-)
"It's okay," he concedes, as they walk slowly out of the adoption centre, "but only because it's you."
Miyata smiles back at him, brighter than a thousand sunbeams.
"Date?"

I was a little curious as to what animal Miyata was adopting - A kitten because it reminds him of Tama? Another flying squirrel so Tama can finally raise a family like he wants :D?
