Home is Osaka.
Where Ohkura was born and planted his roots as he grew. Osaka is the backdrop behind every important early scene. Where he met the people who would become most important to him and where together they shaped their future. Where they stood on rooftops and waved flags with their names embroidered. Hometown idols with only a Kansai region debut. Even the name of their group reminds Ohkura everyday where he is from and where he belongs.
Tokyo is work.
The place where opportunity is lucky enough to bring them. They still joke that Maruyama is too nervous and be consequence unpredictable on variety shows but the truth is all of them are always somewhat on edge. Careful of what dialect they use and aware of what is expected of them. They play loud and funny for the cameras but know only a single Shinkansen ride has taken them to new jobs and chances and the same train can take them all home again.
But then Ohkura meets Kitayama and it sparks a catalyst. What starts as another job births a friendship that starts akin to comradery. It’s something special between them that’s different to how it is with their respective other members. Through Kitayama Ohkura makes new friends, contemplates joining a gym, starts to learn the streets of Tokyo as well as he knows Osaka. Occasionally he stays unplanned extra nights, sleeps over at Kitayama’s and regrets having to leave the next day when the other broaches lunch plans.
Eventually Ohkura rents an apartment in Tokyo - for work he reasons - and takes the train home less frequently.
Years pass and it inexplicably unnerves Ohkura one day while grocery shopping when he realises he knows the layout of the supermarket by his Tokyo apartment better than the one by his family home - maybe even prefers the produce selection, knows exactly when the time sales start. He tries to pinpoint when it all changed, when his life relocated, how he now has to remember to bring clothes and luggage when leaving for Osaka and no longer the other way around.
At night he falls into his bed in his apartment in a city not his own. Kitayama shifts closer and mumbles something half asleep - probably wants the bedside light turned off but Ohkura leaves it on a little longer, watches his sleeping face in the hopes it might shed some light on the puzzle. Ohkura really doesn’t know anymore if home is where his roots are or his heart.
