I wrote this in a hurry as I wasn't home these days, so it might be just a mess. It's set in my steampirates!AU. Shooting Star is the name of ebikisu's pirate ship.
The camp was wrapped in the silence and darkness of the night. The island was supposed to be deserted, there was no danger around so the sentry was napping beside the campfire.
Senga was looking down at the tents from a cliff. The navy ship was anchored before the coral reef that surrounded the island and it casted his shadow over the moonlit sea.
Nikaido was in the camp already. He had scampered down the cliff just a few minutes before and Senga was trying to follow his shadow moving around the tents, but Nikaido was too quick and stealth, so he soon lost sight of him.
One wrong move and they would be doomed. Thinking about it, having the navy do all the hard work finding the map had been a good idea, and they just couldn't hope better when they saw they didn’t leave and were still camping on the island that night. That meant it would have been easier to steal the map as they wouldn't need to board the ship and wait for backups from the Shooting Star to escape. Senga knew that they were actually supposed to find the hidden map before the Navy, but for some reason, the plan didn’t work out. Senga pictured Kitayama disappointed face in his mind. After all, that was their mission, they were alone on that island, miles of sea between them and their friends. He really wanted everything to work smoothly from now on and sending Nikaido to steal the map was the only way not to turn the mission into a failure.
Suddenly the Navy soldiers started screaming and running around the tents. Senga froze and stood there, ready to catch any sign of Nikaido. He couldn’t see much, but the mess in the camp probably meant that Nikaido hadn’t been caught yet. After what seemed like an eternity, he heard footsteps coming towards him. He went to hide behind a rock and saw Nikaido panting and desperately searching for him.
“Kenpi where are you?” he whispered.
“I’m here. What happened?” Senga answered without leaving his hiding place.
“I have the map Kenpi! Look!” Nikaido took out a rolled parchment. “We need to go now.”
“Where? The Shooting Star is only coming back here in two days.”
“We’ll just have to hide and wait for them.”
“The Navy men will search for us everywhere on this tiny island. How are we supposed to do?”
“I think we have no choice but to try. Or maybe...”
They both stared at the Navy ship, its dark silhouette against the moon. It was a new model of automated ship that didn’t require an entire crew to move. It only needed someone in the boiler room and someone to steer the ship. Once the engine had started, you could load coal once in a while, the sails would do the rest. They both grinned. Waiting had never been their cup of tea.
