Superheroes.

It’s a concept that they eye warily, because, well, superheroes. The whole thing screams ‘little kids’, never mind the inevitable costumes.

(“Well it can’t be as bad as the hand-me-down smocks in varying shades of ‘metallic hideous’” Ohkura says one time, and Yasuda rebuffs with “I suppose, but on the other hand, what if they’re worse.”

The all take a moment to sit in silence and contemplate the horror of that.)

Subaru is adamant he just wants to make music, he doesn’t want a gimmick, and Nishikido agrees: after all they’ve done just to debut it’s a bit of a short straw. Drawbacks. Murakami says evenly, trying to placate the group as they huff and hunch their shoulders with petulant defiance.

Maruyama just sits there watching, not entirely sure. “We can’t exactly say no,” is his eventual, slightly lame (in his opinion) offering, “No-one says no.”

“But it’s childish.” Subaru whines.

“It’s perfect.”

The group turns to look at Yoko skeptically, all searching for a hint of sarcasm or light-hearted humour.

“It’ll be fun, ok? A chance to be different and have something of our own. Who knows it might take off.”

“Or it won’t, and we’ll never be taken seriously ever again.” Nishikido groans into one of the sofa cushions.

“Well what if it does. And then some point in the future it’s so successful we have films about it. Films.” Yoko looks whimsically towards the window and the others scoff.

“Yeah well, whatever. You’re writing all of whatever it will be.”

As the others begin to do more productive tasks that flop about over furniture and wail at their misfortune, Yoko smiles.
