[team 1] random cafe encounter AU

I feel like I could turn this into a full fic if I felt like it, so I'm glad I got it started.

The worst that can happen is that they'll become friends and start to spend time together and get to know each other and fall in love. And falling in love means that Nino will have to give his time and energy to someone else, that he'll have to be responsible for is actions, have to answer to someone else when he'd rather just let his body deteriorate like it usually would left to its own devices. It means he can't spend twenty hours a day tapping away at his DS, under his desk and behind the counter and in bed when he should be sleeping.

Nino sees him every day, though, a regular at the university cafe where Nino works to save up money to buy more video games. He always brings a textbook and a highlighter, settling into the same small table with his usual order -- a macchiato and the muffin of the day -- and he stays for as long as it takes for him to get through his reading for the afternoon. Nino doesn't know his name, but he watches him work the pages from his perch in front of the espresso machine, sees how serious and earnest he is, watches the way he breathes deep before he takes a sip of his drink, and Nino thinks he knows plenty about him anyway. They're basically friends already.

"Hello," Nino says across the table, nodding at the chair in front of him.

The other man blinks at his book twice before looking up. Nino glances at the chair again, and the other man gives him a smirk and a small nod. "Hello," he replies.

Nino slides the chair out, watching the other man watch him. He sits down and looks the other man in the face for as long as he's allowed to, the long lashes and the little beauty spots scattered around his lips, and he might already be in love. Things are off to a bad start.
