[team 1] a not unpleasant arrangement
The first scene of a fic that may or may not come to fruition. This one goes out to Sammy and Noemi, and especially Rosie, who asked me maybe last week if I'd be writing Yokofuji at some point. Who knew it would happen so soon? :o
"I'm fine with the arrangement."
The other boy doesn't have much of an option when it's his parents paying for it, but Wataru keeps that response to himself. He just nods curtly as he takes in the proud stance, the challenging look in the other boy's eyes that says that he really isn't as fine as he claims to be.
Wataru can't blame him. Most of the students he's hired to tutor are indignant at best, and usually they're not at their best, furious little tornadoes spiraling in their very own homes, their insistence that they Don't Need Help barely audible over the din of the storm.
But this one is quiet. He's probably going to resist, like so many of them do, but Wataru hopes he does so calmly, with a minimal amount of violence. Wataru isn't quite sure what to expect; the gang has made a name for itself all over their high school, and their leader must be more trouble than it's worth. Wataru will do his best, though. He doesn't need to be in a gang to take a challenge head-on.
"Take care of our Taisuke," is the last instruction Wataru gets, and the bedroom door closes in time with the irritated click of a tongue.
When Wataru turns back around, his reluctant charge is lying bowlegged on the floor, leaning back on an elbow as he fidgets with his phone. "So you're going to teach me?" he says tonelessly, not bothering to look up from his phone screen. Wataru feels his cheeks heat up at the blatant lack of manners, but he holds the rebuke in. He gets the feeling Fujigaya will be testing him in all sorts of ways.
Wataru steels himself for a fight. If it were a battle of wits, he'd win by a long shot, but this time, stubbornness is the key to victory, and he doesn't know his opponent well enough yet to predict his next move. He puts on the face he makes when he's trying to tell his brother what's what, and he sits down at the table across from Fujigaya. "I'm not leaving until we get some studying done." Fujigaya looks up with an incredulous look on his face, and Wataru nods firmly and continues. "So we'd better start soon. Neither of us wants me to be here for that long."
Fujigaya sits and stares, but Wataru doesn't budge. He grits his teeth and stares back, longer than he's ever stared down another person, and finally Fujigaya drops his gaze, clicking his tongue again as he reaches lazily for his history textbook. "Let's get this over with, then."
Wataru is in full agreement.

Taisuke has plenty of time to learn that Wataru is a very strict tutor, nfufufufu.
