[Team 1] I Won't Lose You Again

I wasn't sure if I would have the time to write shiritori this time round, but I'm glad I did~ #UltimateStressReliever

Here, have some Magic!verse YaraRyo~

"What you did back there, Ryota," exploded Yara the moment the door of their guest rooms closed behind him, "was downright reckless and stupid, and you could have gotten yourself seriously injured or worse! I- You-- I can't---" In lieu of words, he waved his arms around instead, gesticulating furiously.

Ryota stood before him, looking down at his laced fingers with a chastened expression, worrying his bottom lip between his teeth, and when Yara stopped talking, he peeked up nervously.

"I'm... sorry...?" he tried cautiously.

"You're not, though," cut in Yara, his voice quieter but no less annoyed. "You're not sorry at all, nor should you be. I just..."

"No, you're right," agreed Ryota, "I'm not sorry at all; not for what I did, anyway. I am sorry for worrying you, especially after what we've been through recently, but I wasn't really thinking of the consequences. I was just following my instincts - it told me that I was capable of doing it - and I couldn't just not do anything. Miyata was in danger and I wasn't in his line of sight and I just... went with the flow."

Yara sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tilted his head backwards. After a mental count to three, he dropped his head down to fix Ryota with a look of exasperated fondness.

"I suppose you never were one to just let things be," he commented, his lips quirking into a small smile.

"You guys stormed that mansion to save us," said the younger man, taking a step closer to grasp Yara's hands. "I couldn't let your efforts go to waste, not if I could help it."

Yara looked down to where the Nullifier's fingers were laced between his, the other's skin marked and scored by the destructive powers he had somehow managed to unleash from within him.

It had been unexpected, that sudden surge of electricity that had momentarily cut the power and turned the room pitch black. It had given the others just enough time to free Miyata from the clutches of the madman, and even though Miyata and Ryota's captor wouldn't go down without a fight, those precious moments Ryota had unexpectedly given them was enough to make sure Nullifiers could sleep more safely in their beds at night. Yara had found him collapsed in a tired, limp heap under the wooden desk he had been hiding behind afterwards, his fingers still tingling from the outburst of energy.

"Well, the good news is..." began Ryota, trailing off as he thought about his discovery.

"You mean, something good will come out scaring the living daylights out of me?" asked Yara sceptically, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm just trying to look on the bright side of things," pouted the younger man. "But as I was saying, the good news is that I may be able to better defend myself from other Hunters!"

Yara opened his mouth, a retort on the tip of his tongues, but the words disappeared before he could utter them.

Ryota was right: although they had managed to take down one Head Hunter, there were still very many out there training teams of Hunters to find, track, and capture Nullifiers. They would still find his precious Ryota somehow - they would still try to find ways of taking him from under Yara's nose.

The mere thought of letting Ryota get captured again caused a wave of anger to wash over him, and he tightened his grip on the other's fingers.

"Never again," he whispered harshly, pulling the Nullifier forward so their foreheads touched. "I'm never letting you get captured again. I'm going to keep you safe, always. I've lost too much to the Hunters already - I'm not going to lose you too."

"And you won't," answered Ryota, his voice sensing and matching Yara's emotions, "I know you won't. I know you'll keep me safe, because you'll train me, or let someone else train me so I can protect myself. You can't always be watching my back for me - we've been down that road before and we know where it leads to. Let me take on some of that burden, Yaracchi; let me do what needs to be done."

Yara closed his eyes and pressed closer to Ryota, letting the other's scent calm him so he could think and decide. It was the smartest choice, he knew, and yet he couldn't help but feel... worried. He didn't have the abilities to help Ryota, not with what the other was asking for, but he didn't know who he could turn to for help.

"Trust in me, Tomoyuki," Ryota whispered. "I know who to ask for help. Miyata and I got to talk a lot during our time in captivity, and he told me all about Yamashita's abilities. Just trust in me."

Then he pressed a soft kiss to Yara's lips, and Yara gave in.
