I'm teaching in public school in Japan right now. ^^; My biggest piece of advice based on my experience just in Japan is to seriously be prepared for anything... here, one huge problem is that the kids are tested on material that's just plain wrong, but they have to learn it wrong to get into high school/college because it's wrong on the tests, for example. I think to be a successful EFL teacher you sort of have to be flexible to the system of the school/district/town/region/country you're located in and try to make the best of what you have to work with and engage the kids in a way that works in that setting. But Japan literally has the worst English ability level in all of Asia (except North Korea, because they don't have data from North Korea...) so my view is probably pretty skewed. XD;
