From an AU that has, like, 1k and a bajillion long e-mails.
"Time," Liyin answers quietly, her gaze fixed on the carpeted floor. "I need time, m'lord, to consider your proposal."
There is a quiet shuffling sound coming towards her, and then hands are wrapped around her upper arm to guide her out of her deep curtsey. She looks up to see the King smiling gently down at her.
"Take all the time you need, my dear," he says comfortingly. "Matters of the heart, they should not be decided on a whim, so take all the time you think you will need. Besides, you have quite a while yet before Jongdae returns from his trip around the continent."
She nods before dipping down into another curtsey, her head bowing in thanks.
"However, know this, Liyin," he continues in a more serious tone, and Liyin can't help but look up in curiosity. "My son, he is very sure of his feelings towards you. It has been more than ten years since you first sought asylum with us and he has watched you grow from being the shy, quiet girl who would hide behind Lu Han at the first sign of trouble into the kind, confident woman who is capable of handling anything thrown her way, and he has loved you in some way every step of the way.
"I am not telling you this to pressure you into making a decision in favour of my son," he adds, his voice softening once again. "I am telling you this because I feel it is only fair that you know."
Liyin's not sure what to say in response to this piece of information, so instead she dips into a low curtsey. Once again, she's pulled up by the King, who looks her up and down once before pulling her into a hug.
"But that's a decision to be made another day," he whispers. "Take your time, my dear, and choose what you think is best for you."
"Yes, m'lord," she replies just as quietly.
He lets her go and she steps back, maintaining a respectful distance between herself and the monarch.
