"Challenge accepted," Yamamoto says with a confident jerk of his head. "Piece of cake."
Beside him, Fukuda and Tatsumi glance at each other knowingly.
"It has to be a proper kiss, mind," says Matsuzaki, pursing his lips reprovingly. "None of those half-assed pecks on the cheeks. And it has to be something he actually chooses to do, no bribes or coercion, okay?"
"Isn't it a bit unfair to be adding conditions after he's already agreed to the challenge?" Koshioka asks.
"Whatever," says Yamamoto. "It's fine, I can do it." He's fairly certain he can get this particular challenge nailed by the end of the day.
Except getting Yara to kiss him during rehearsals turns out to be bizarrely harder than Yamamoto initially thought. It's almost like Yara is deliberately avoiding him: when Yamamoto leans in a little too close, Yara takes a step back. When Yamamoto stretches up, up, and flashes the stripe of skin just above his pants Yara chooses that exact moment to look off to the side, calling out to Kajiyama to stop messing around, and Yamamoto has to relax again or risk overbalancing and looking stupid. When Yamamoto drapes his arms over Yara's shoulders from behind and leans against Yara's back, Yara wriggles free and moves away, and Yamamoto catches Matsuzaki's warning finger-wag letting him know that that was too close to breaking the rules. What is wrong with Yara today? Have the fever and fasting diet made him go crazy?
