[team one] winners
I sort of feel guilty for enjoying writing these two so much :x They're so cute T_T

"Next time, you'll definitely be the winners!" Kishi is insistent and earnest, invading Fu's personal space without a second thought. They have all gone their separate ways after the final Gamushara concert wrap-up, with Ren safely on his way home and Genki securely lodged between Jinguji and Reia for moral support, and even though Fu meant to go straight home, he did, somehow he ended up mailing Kishi asking him if they could meet and now here they are, sitting next to each other at the counter of a chain curry house while Fu prods slowly at curry-soaked rice with his spoon.
"It's fine," Fu insists, prodding the rice again and wondering why he isn't hungry at all. "We had a good time, and everything." He's trying to convince himself, he knows, but if he keeps it up he'll start believing it for real, right?
"You should have won, though!" Kishi has already finished his curry (the mildest possible) and is running his fingers over the condensation on the outside of his water glass, again and again every time the glass is refilled. "I thought you were the best," he adds, almost mulishly.
Fu finds that he is smiling despite himself. Kishi thinks he was the best. His team, he amends internally. But, still. "Thanks," he says. "That means a lot."
"Really?" Kishi looks up from his intense scrutiny of the water-glass condensation. "Because it's true! Fu was definitely the best and the coolest, really cool, and, ah!" He gestures too emphatically, and the glass clatters over onto its side and rolls away. Fu catches it before it rolls off the counter altogether, and there is a pause while they grab a handful of napkins each to mop up the spreading puddle of spilled water.
"Sorry," Kishi says, before staring in sudden bafflement at his fingertips, which have shrivelled slightly from constantly touching the condensation. "I don't know how that happened."
"It's okay," says Fu. Kishi is so cute when he's confused, and right now, while he's staring bemusedly at his own hands, Kishi looks so cute that Fu wants to give him a big, long hug. And that isn't okay, not in the middle of a curry house. "I think I've had enough to eat now, though. I give up."
"Are you sure?"
Fu nods. "I'm sure. It's a shame to waste it, but it's too spicy for you, and…"
"I'm paying!" Kishi announces, grabbing the thin scrap of paper on which their bill is printed and standing up before Fu can react. "You can pay after the next concerts, when your team wins!"
"But-" Fu starts to protest; it isn't fair, that isn't fair, there isn't going to be a 'next time' and it isn't right that Kishi should pay under false pretences. But Kishi has already wandered off toward the cash register, and it's all Fu can do to pick up their bags (Kishi has forgotten his, walking off with only his wallet) and trot obediently after him like the good kouhai that he sometimes tries to be.
Outside, Fu inhales deeply and then exhales again, feeling a little of the weight lift from his body and drift away into the evening air. He should probably go home soon, or at least mail his mother, but he isn't quite ready to go just yet. "Wanna go for a walk?" he asks, turning to where Kishi is slinging the strap of his bag over his shoulder.
"You want to go for a walk with me?" Kishi asks, face instantly brightening in a way that makes Fu feel even lighter than before. "Even after you're all tired from the concerts?"
"I'm not so tired now," Fu replies, and it's true; somehow the feelings from a few hours ago have dropped away and a new kind of energy has returned, a cooler, fresher feeling that wraps around him and holds him up despite the wilting tiredness of the summer heat. "But only if you want to," he adds, as a hastily-considered afterthought.
"Let's go!" Kishi replies, instantly grabbing Fu's hand and pulling him off away down the street. Fu's heart jumps up into his face and makes his skin burn red from the sudden contact of their hands, but then Kishi pulls them down into a side street away from the majority of the pedestrian traffic and Fu's heart rate begins to calm a little once more.
After a moment of silent walking, Fu says, "Thanks for coming to meet me tonight," and even though it's fairly dark and the street lamps aren't really bright enough for him to see Kishi's face, Fu is pretty sure he can feel Kishi's blush in the way his fingers tighten just a little bit more strongly around Fu's hand.
"Of course," Kishi replies, and Fu's heart stumbles slightly over the tone of Kishi's voice. "I mean, I'd've come anyway. But I'm really glad that you asked me to come."
Fu doesn't really know what to say to that. Instead, he squeezes Kishi's hand tighter, cherishing this rare moment where both of them are feeling brave enough to hold hands like this (which, Fu is certain, will end as soon as they return to a more peopled area).
And, because sometimes words are entirely unneeded, Kishi squeezes his hand in return.
