[team three] untitled office au
so this is just like an excerpt from a fic i'm gonna try to actually finish this weekend? (prey for me friends.) i'll come up with a title eventually~ basically it's an office au where sehun is in love with kyungsoo and it's really adorable and cutesy so i'm gonna write maybe a long fic to it :3

“For all of us, I hope that's true," Chanyeol says after Jongin delivers the wonderful, newly founded news of Kyungsoo's relationship status.
Sehun stares at Jongin blankly for a full minute before processing the situation. "Wait," he says slowly. "Repeat that."
Jongin rolls his eyes but does so. "Kyungsoo hyung is single, or so that's what the rumor mill says in Finance."
"Finance also has other things to say about Kyungsoo," Chanyeol stage whispers. "But you probably don't want to hear them." And Sehun could smack him right then and there if it didn't mean having to get up and walk half way across the room. His legs might not carry him that far, he feels a little weak in the knees.
Jongin, the good friend that he is, smacks Chanyeol anyway, but it's more of a love tap on the arm than anything else. Sehun can't really be picky though. "You're just biased, you worked with Kyungsoo for years."
With a grin, Chanyeol shrugs, bringing his coffee mug up to his lips to take a sip from it. "We're like best friends, what can I say."
"What?!" Sehun shouts, gaining the look of passbyers outside of the break room. "How did you not think this was important information, like, four months ago?"
Chanyeol frowns a bit. "I thought your little crush would be gone by now."
It's Jongin who snorts, nearly spraying coffee across the table. "Sehun? Get over his crush? You mean the crush he's had for two years?" He snorts this time, mug safely away from his face. "That's a good one."
Chanyeol only shrugs. "Look, all I'm saying is that he may or may not be single, yes." He needs toward Jongin. "But that doesn't mean you should get your hopes up." He ruffles Sehun's hair on the way past as he slips out of the break room, leaving both Sehun and Jongin in silence.
"What does he even come down here for anyway," Sehun grumbles a few moments later. "He doesn't even work in this division."
"Oh, Sehun," Jongin sighs loudly, leaving him alone in the break room as well. Whatever, Sehun thinks. Now he's got some things to plan out thanks to this new tidbit of information.

Sehun would like to believe he’s come a long way from that sad little intern he once was, stopping at the sight of Kyungsoo and staring for the all of five seconds they were in the same vicinity. He’s even come a long way from that sad person he was when Kyungsoo was switched to their division, something he doesn’t like to think about. Dark times, those first few weeks. Sehun spent more time ranting and raving on why his life was unfair everytime he saw Kyungsoo, thought about Kyungsoo, than actually looking at him.
Really, he likes to think he’s grown up a lot since then.
He can even say good morning to Kyungsoo now without making a fool of himself! See, progress.
“I hate my life,” Sehun says, dropping his head on his desk.
“Well,” Baekhyun says from the next cubicle over. “If I were you, I’d hate my life too, so the feeling is mutual.”
He sighs lifting his head up, righting his keyboard once more and typing in his login information. “Maybe I should just quit my job.”
“Uh, no. That is not a thing you should do. I’m not doing your work.”
Sehun snorts. “It wouldn’t be my work anymore though, hyung.”
Baekhyun turns and smiles at him, fake as can be, eyes dark and threatening. “Which is why you’re not going to quit.” He turns back to his on desk, missing Sehun’s mocking face.
“Can we pretend,” Sehun says, clicking through things on his computer, “for five seconds, that the things I do here aren't actually to make your life harder?”
“Wait,” Jongin says, peeking out from his own cubicle on the other side of Sehun. “You mean it isn’t all about Byun Baekhyun-ssi?”
Baekhyun shoots them both a dirty look. “Har har har.” They snicker. “I’m just trying to benefit from the situation. You stay at work, you eventually get with that hot piece of ass Kyungsoo, and I have less work to do, and no one has to die. It’s mutually beneficial to all of us.”
“For that to work, he needs to actually make a move on Kyungsoo-ssi,” Jongin points out.
Sehun hisses under his breath, “traitor.”
“Not all my plans are perfect,” Baekhyun retorts. “I can’t think of everything. He’s on his own with this one.”
“I didn’t want your help anyway,” Sehun huffs. He stands abruptly from his chair and heads to the break room. He needs some fucking coffee, stat. And as usual, in the break room, and Chanyeol, because clearly he doesn’t have any actual work to do ever, and needs to hang out in PR’s fucking break room. “Don’t you have any other places to haunt during the workday,” he grumbles out over Chanyeol’s loud laughing. “I swear we didn’t see you down here this much before.”
“Hm,” comes another voice that is a completely different tone from Chanyeol’s own. “Yes, he does hang out around here more doesn’t he?”
Sehun looks up from his half prepared cup to see Kyungsoo leaning against the counter opposite of Chanyeol. “Uh,” he says intelligently while Chanyeol has the audacity to snort at this, like Sehun’s life--his failure of a love life no less!--is amusing to him. So rude.
“Granted,” Kyungsoo continues on, bringing his mug to his lips and taking a sip from it. Sehun best his coffee is black and strong, “just like his soul” someone in the office would say. “Chanyeol never did do much work when I was up in Finance.” The corner of his mouth quirks up in a smirk. “Maybe I should speak to your new manager. Who is it now? Minseok?”
Chanyeol’s smile slips off his face. “You wouldn’t dare.”
The smirk Kyungsoo is sporting widens. “Maybe I would. You don’t know that.”
Sehun watches the exchange with wide eyes, not sure how to take in this side of Kyungsoo, who seems almost playful while still getting down to business.
“Fuck, Kyungsoo,” Chanyeol huffs, heading out of the break room. “You’re such a hardass now.”
Kyungsoo shrugs even though Chanyeol can’t see him. “Management is quite a different responsibility, Chanyeol.”
Sehun still stares long after Chanyeol is gone, his coffee forgotten at the small break table. Kyungsoo looks up at him carefully, eyes calculating and Sehun swears his heart stops beating. Do fucking Kyungsoo is looking at him, staring at him even. This is the longest eye contact has ever been held. He cannot fuck this up.
“Chanyeol is harmless,” Kyungsoo says finally, closing his eyes and taking another sip from his coffee. “He just likes to have fun.”
He rolls eyes despite himself. “But in another department’s break room?”
A small laugh escapes Kyungsoo. “That’s Chanyeol for you. Boundaries are not really his strong suit. He’s just lucky I was given this position and not, say, Ryeowook-ssi.”
Sehun shudders at the thought. “We’re all lucky for that one.”
“Maybe.” Kyungsoo shrugs. “He’s not a bad guy, his face is just...intense.”
A silence falls over them, forcing Sehun to focus back on his coffee, trying his hardest not to stare at Kyungsoo more. It’s a test of his self control, really. He wants to keep talking while he’s in here, find out more about Kyungsoo, hear his voice, his laugh, but he doesn’t know what to say to kick start another conversation. It’s a normal problem, but with Kyungsoo in the room, it’s damn near impossible to get over.
“So,” he says slowly. “You mean like Baekhyun.”
Kyungsoo lifts a brow in confusion.
“Intense facial features., Baekhyun can be intense as well. But that’s more of a Byun Baekhyun thing than how his face is.”
He chuckles this time, eyes crinkling at the corners just a bit. “Maybe. I haven’t had a real conversation with Baekhyun-ssi yet. Or most of the department for that matter.”
“O-oh,” Sehun says. He licks his lips, forcing his eyes to stay on his coffee as he sips at it slowly, dragging the time he can be with Kyungsoo, as awkward as it is, out.
“It’s hard finding the time to get to know the people you work with when you just work, but managing all of them?” Kyungsoo shakes his head. “It’s a little scary,” he admits softly.
Sehun hums, not sure what he’s supposed to say to that, but still thinking it’s best he lets Kyungsoo know he’s listening.
“Oh well,” he sighs, placing his mug in the break room sink. “There’s still time for that.” He heads toward the door of the break room, passing Sehun on his way. “Don’t work too hard, Sehun,” Kyungsoo says, patting him on the arm before slipping out the room.
Sehun lasts all of five seconds before he’s letting out the longest breath he’s ever held. At least he doesn’t fan himself. He likes to think he’s above swooning over his crush touching him. But no one needs to know how fast his heart is beating in his chest over what just transpired.
also really sorry for taking so long oh my god, shit happened and i'm dumb but yeah. sadly i won't be around for the next set of rounds so happy shiritori-ing everyone <3
