[Team Five] Trance
I made a new friend today and bonded with her over matsumatsu, so naturally I had to write them.
“You might wanna clean that up,” Kaito says the moment Genta’s little sister knocks over his glass of water. Genta just looks at him, rolling his eyes as he gets up to get a towel. “If you don’t it’ll just ruin the table! That’s all.”
They were supposed to just hang out tonight, watch movies and eat all kinds of things that were bad for them and talk about work, but Genta’s parents had decided to go out and leave his sister behind. Kaito has no problem helping Genta babysit his sister, she’s fun and Kaito enjoys watching the way she has Genta all but wrapped around her little finger. Genta returns shortly and quickly cleans up the spilled drink and then they begin to play the game once more, it’s not a hard game and they were only doing it to keep Mimi busy and calm until her bedtime. More often than not, as they sit there with her and play games Kaito finds himself getting more and more distracted by Genta.
Genta’s not doing anything to draw attention to himself, just giving his sister his full attention. Smiling when she says something, and ruffling her hair when she begins to pout. Kaito’s seen many sides of Genta, but this is a new one for him. Of course since he’s so busy staring he misses a couple of his turns, and it’s not until Genta flicks him in the middle of the forehead that he blinks.
“Stop staring at me it’s weird,” Genta says, and Kaito blinks and shakes himself out of whatever daze he’d been in.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize I was,” Kaito replies, and it’s true he had no idea he had been staring.
“You’ve been doing it since we started playing that last game. I wasn’t going to say anything, but I was starting to get really uncomfortable,” Genta explains, and Kaito doesn’t blame him. “I’d just rather you stare at me if we’re talking and not when we’re just playing a game with my sister.”
At the mention of his sister Kaito looks over to realize that she’s no longer there and looks back at Genta questioningly. “Where’d she go?”
“While you were in a trance I put her to bed and now we’re all alone.” Genta smiles and normally that wouldn’t bother Kaito, but now his heart speeds up and he doesn’t really understand why. “I’ll grab some snacks for us if you want to pick a movie to watch. Nothing too loud or she’ll wake up.”
“Okay,”
Kaito doesn’t make any effort to move until Genta returns and asks him why he hasn’t chosen something to watch yet, really he doesn’t have an answer and smiles awkwardly before rushing over to the movies and getting one himself. Kaito relaxes more once the lights are turned off and Genta’s focused solely on what’s happening on screen, which gives Kaito a second opportunity to watch him. Everytime Genta smiles his heart skips a beat, everytime Genta laughs his breath stops.
“I think I like you,” Kaito says suddenly, and Genta just slowly turns his head.
“You don’t say?” Genta smiles, happy and bright. “If I let you hold my hand will you finally stop staring at me, it’s really weird.”
Kaito nods, ending up staring more at their hands once Genta reaches over and laces their fingers together. His hands are warm, fitting perfectly with Kaito’s own. It makes him wonder why he never realized his feelings before now, but he supposed he can tackle those thoughts later and finally focuses on the movie.
They can always schedule another movie night, hopefully without any interruptions.
