[team one] lunch break

Hello hello, first time posting in Shiritori, and I almost ran out of time orz. Also first time writing about SZ. Just something quick and short and random. The world needs more Fuma/Sou though.

Friendship is the theme of one of their photo shoots that day, with all the ridiculous hugging poses and talk and questions about the bond of the three of them, and Fuma’s had enough of it after about five minutes. Too bad it takes a lot longer than that to finish. Photographers eventually give up with asking him to smile more (or at all), and the interviewers have to use all their energy to get even some answers out of him.

Fuma knows that he’s being stupid, childish and unprofessional but still can’t quite help it. It’s been only two days since the volleyball announcement and the ceremony thing, and he’s still rather sour about it all. Right then, all the bond and friendship crap just rubs him in the wrong way. It’s quite clear that the staff as well as Shori and Kento can tell that he’s in a bad mood, and once they’re finally finished with the shoot and it’s time for lunch break they all pretty much let him be, which is more than fine for Fuma.

Fuma goes and grabs a lunch bento and a drink from the dressing room table but instead of sitting down to eat with the two he heads out of the room, and after confirming from a staff member that the juniors are shooting on the studio down the hall, he excuses himself, promising to be back after the break.

Fuma opens the studio door quietly and quickly sneaks in, trying not to pull too much attention to himself as he walks further towards the shooting area. He can hear loud conversations and laughter carrying from the dressing rooms but ignores it when he sees the trio that’s posing in front of the camera right then. He’s lucky; there’s Sou with Matsuda and Matsukura, and it looks like they’re just about to wrap up as well. Fuma stops a bit farther to wait and tries to think of a subtle way to get Sou’s attention but turns out that he doesn’t have to worry about it: when the photographer finally lets them go, Sou looks up and notices Fuma right away, a wide smile lighting up his face.

Sou walks to him, looking a bit questioning and Fuma lifts his bento and hopes the other gets the hint. For once Sou does, and after he’s run to dressing rooms to get his own lunch, they sit down on two vacant stairs on the other side of the studio.

Despite having looked surprised at first, Sou doesn’t ask why Fuma’s suddenly there or anything, and Fuma’s thankful of that. Instead, they chitchat about random things and Fuma makes fun of Sou’s photo shoot costume. Sou tries cracking stupid jokes and Fuma tsukkomis him and they laugh, and for a reason Fuma doesn’t quite understand, his bad mood and irritation quickly fade away and even Sou trying to steal part of his sushi can’t spoil that.

“Idiot! You have your own meal,” Fuma scolds while laughing and holds his bento out of the Sou’s reach.

“We could switch?” Sou tries. “You can have my chicken.”

“No thanks.”

“Okay...”

Fuma snorts at Sou’s easy surrender and after a second drops his last sushi bite into Sou’s bento box.

“Wow! Thank you! It’s so good!”

“Shut up.”

Fuma watches Sou finishing his bento and wonders in passing why can’t all of their breaks be like this again. This is the first time they’ve seen each other this week, and Fuma isn’t sure when the next time’s going to be.

Sou looks up from his food right then and catches Fuma watching.

“What?” he asks, mouth full of rice and Fuma smacks him, telling him that he’s disgusting.

“It’s nothing.”

The 30-minutes break is over too soon and Fuma reluctantly packs up his things and gets ready to head back to the other studio.

“Thanks for dropping by,” Sou says when they get up. “It was fun. Say hi for Kento-kun and Shori for me.”

“Yeah,” is all Fuma manages. He wishes that instead of conveying those greetings he could just take their youngest members with him now.

But he can’t. It’s all kind of hard and complicated, and sometimes it’s easier to pretend to be okay and not to care that much instead of showing that one actually cares too much, so much it almost hurts.

So without any longer goodbyes, Fuma waves shortly to Sou and heads to the door.

“Work hard,” he calls out to Sou over his shoulder before stepping out, even though he feels like he’s the one who needs the cheering more right now.
