[Team One] And up they go

An AU I came up while browsing tumblr. I doubt there'll ever be more of this.

Caution was always advised during the evenings. Everybody knew that 8 PM was the worst time to be outside, but that it was never really safe before 10 PM. Doors were kept closed during those hours, windows too, if one happened to have them; nothing was open and no-one was outside.

It was one of the few things that were the same for everyone.

It was already dark outside, so lights were lighting up at the corners of the apartment. The big ones at the ceiling remained dark, but the fairylights, the small bulbs covered with colorful paper sheets, the lights under the tables and at the sides of the chairs were slowly starting to brighten the labyrinth inside the concrete walls.

Asahi ran up the spiral staircase, taking two steps at the time. When Myuto and Noeru made it to the top of the stairs, both laughing at something Noeru had said, Asahi was already standing in front of the windows.

“It’s gonna start soon,” Myuto whispered. Asahi’s fingers curled around the railing in front of him as he took one last deep breath, feeling the other boys standing just behind him.

Suddenly there was something big and red and glimmering in front of him, and then it was gone before he had even seen it well enough to really understand what it was.

But there were others, and they moved slower, making their way through the air silently. Asahi stood by the window, mouth fallen open and mind not believing what the eyes saw. He had to look for the right words for a while, finally stuttering,

“They are… they’re fish. Gigantic fish. Literally fish flying in the air. Flying red fish all over the place!”
