[Team SONIC] an unexpected assignment
Starting word from here.
Expectation high, Jongdae hurried through the corridors of the department, almost missing the door of the room he was supposed to enter. He just managed to pull himself to stop, the soles of his shoes squeaking against the linoleum floor as he did so.
He stood outside for a moment, taking in a deep breath to calm himself before breathing it back out measuredly. It wouldn't do to appear over-eager, not to the person he was supposed to be meeting anyway. Clearing his throat softly, he raised a hand to knock and the other to the handle.
"Come in," answered a quiet voice from inside.
Not the voice he had been expecting to hear.
Turning the handle, he cracked the door open and peeked in, trying to rearrange all the facts, process the unexpected surprise he was now faced with. He had not expected, when he had received that note from Amber, that he would be looking at Special Agent Liyin — or, the top of her head. She was bent over the meeting table, her long hair flowing onto the papers she was scribbling across in a quick hand.
"Time is of the essence, Agent Chen," the quiet voice — Special Agent Liyin, he now knew — spoke again. "Come inside, shut the door, and take a seat."
The command in her words was irrefutable, so he did as he was told.
Only when he was seated did she look up from her work. Her expression was tight and focused, and she fixed Jongdae with a sharp look before she nodded and looked to the third occupant of the room.
"Agent Amber and Agent Chen," Special Agent Liyin began, "you have been called here today to be assigned onto a new mission."
