"In the dark," Jaehwan repeated, before cursing under his breath and ripping out his earpiece, tossing it onto the work bench in frustration. "We've lost our lead."

Hakyeon let out the breath he had been holding slowly, in measured increments, trying to gain a handle on his emotions before he had to deal with the way this mission was going. They may have lost their lead — an important source that could have halved the amount of time they would have to spend gathering intelligence — but it was by no means the end of the line.

It would simply require a lot more time and effort than they would have liked to spend, piecing together the fragments that they had, and making head and tail of it all.

Just then, his earpiece crackled to life. Taekwoon was checking in with them. What about, Hakyeon had no idea: he must have also heard the news, he must already know that they had lost the lead. What more was there to report?

"Hakyeon," Taekwoon's quiet voice sounded through his earphone, "I think I've finished out where our lead may be heading to."

Beside him, Jaehwan jerked, sitting up and alert. "Tell me more."
