[Team SONIC] sage words from a nameless passerby
First word from Special Friends.
Fantastic," he thought bitterly, glaring down at the notice he had been handed. Fan-fucking-tastic.
He slumped down heavily on the bench, not caring for the way the pidgeon at the other end squawked and fluttered off at the disturbance.
"That was quite a sound you had that bird making," laughed a voice from the next bech over, startling him out of his thoughts. "Nobody has never had the nerves of usurping him from his place as the owner of that bench. I hope, for your sake, that he hasn't gone off to find friends to help fight his cause."
The person addressing him was a young lady, dressed in a cream coloured blouse and a light blue skirt that flowed past her knees, fluttering in the breeze. Her hair had been braided down to end and the plait rested over one shoulder, and she completed her laid back, summery look with a boater hat made of golden straw.
Just looking at her was relaxing.
"Ah, I've surprised you," she said, smiling apologetically.
"It's okay," he assured. "It was a welcome distraction."
"I'm glad," she sighed in relief. "I'm told I have a habit of butting in where I'm not wanted, however well-meaning I try to be."
He made a sound, somewhere between a protest and disbelief, and she must have understood the thoughts that he hadn't yet quite managed to put into words because she laughed, the corner of her eyes crinkling with mirth.
"I'm not offended by those words," she continued. "I know I have a tendency to speak before I've fully thought things through, and people often take that as taking too much interest with too little understanding. Really, it's just a lack of brain-to-mouth filter, but let's keep that a secret between us. I'd rather be known for caring too much than not at all."
"I envy you," he said. "If only I could hold firmly on to that kind of ideal."
"It comes with a great deal of practice," she supplied in a deep, sagely voice. "One is not simply born with a sense of self-security when they care more than they're cared for."
He nodded in agreement.
"Well," she sighed again, "it was nice talking to you, Jongdae~ I'll see you around!"
Still trying to wrap his mind around what she had just said, he absentmindedly waved goodbye to her.
It wasn't until she had completely disappeared from sight that he realised that she had called him by name.
