Into dreams they went, dancing through fields of yellow flowers under bright sunshine, and through forest clearings dappled in drops of sunlight. They danced wherever they went, wherever they could, and they never stopped, dancing on and on and—


She gasped as she awoke, sitting up in surprise and fear. Something had crept out of her dreams and into her life, skittering across the walls in shapeless shadows and skirting along the floorboards.

And even if she couldn't pinpoint where it was, she knew it was there, it was real, and it was hungry.
