First words from Hope to fly.
Title from Good For You by Selena Gomez.
Inspired by Anna Kendrick and the fact that there's an actual Anna Kendrick/Sòng Qiàn | Victoria tag on ao3. Also her laugh is just too cute.
Soon is a metaphor for never, Victoria knows, starting at the screen of her phone, the sound of the other line ringing tinnily from the speaker she's not holding to her ear.
So it's a surprise when the line actually connects, as she fumbles for the phone, almost slipping from between surprised fingers before she manages to hold it up to her ear.
"Hello?" a voice asks on the other end of the line, and Victoria would be distracted by the fact that the person answering the phone seems to either be in the middle of an enormous traffic jam or listening to the world end by road rage on tv, but it's the voice that snatches her attention. It's her
"Hi?" Victoria says, unhelpfully, thoughts still scrambling before she manages to form a coherent thought. "Oh, right, sorry, this is Victoria?" She mentally berates herself for the last upswing in tone, because she knows her own name, seriously.
"Oh, Victoria!" the voice says on the other end of the line, after a delightful laugh that starts out as more of a chuckle and somehow manages to make her smile, even across the line. "Thanks for calling!"
Victoria opens her mouth to answer, but finds herself wincing as she 's interrupted by honking horns, shouting and what maybe sounds like brakes squealing; it's hard to tell but it sounds dangerous.
"Are you okay?" she asks, eyes wide. There's a pause, then the voice comes back on the line, punctuated by slightly ragged breathing.
"Some fucker cut me off," the voice says, laughing again, and Victoria can't help but smile even though she's still slightly worried; whatever happened sounded dangerous. "Anyway, I should probably call you back, in a few minutes once I get to the restaurant and park by bike, but I'm Anna!"
"That's okay," Victoria replies, adding, "Anna," as polite afterthought. "Thanks for leaving a message."
"No worries," Anna replies, and Victoria can hear the sound of traffic passing, behind her voice. "Your bag is safe with me."
The line cuts abruptly, Anna in mid-laugh, and Victoria finds herself smiling again, even though she's missing her bag and wallet and whatever else is in it, a careless mistake at a restaurant and she's just lucky this Anna saw her Facebook post and cared enough to answer.
I think I'll like you, she thinks, and sets her phone down on the desk. See you soon.
See you soon.

This is so cute and I love the reason for them meeting up! I can just imagine Anna navigating crazy traffic on her bike while talking on the phone.
Thanks for writing this <3
