[team two] empty space

idk what this is but it's set in dragon's dogma universe orz too many au

"Destiny?" Luhan asks, drying his bow with a cloth while Sehun eyes him from his place on the bed.

"Yeah. Do you believe in it?"

"I don't know if us Pawns know much about such a thing," Luhan says, eyebrows furrowed. Raindrops dance on the windows outside, background music to their conversation. "Though, I suppose it is but our destiny to stay by our Master's side. We exist for that sole reason."

Sehun sighs, moving to lie on his front and bury his face in his arms.

"You cannot sleep like that, Arisen," Luhan laughs, "your hair is still soaked. You'll catch a cold."

"But I'm tired," Sehun whines, not moving. He hears Luhan sigh, light footsteps following. Sehun doesn't move when he feels the bed dip beside him a few moments later.

"Let me dry it for you," Luhan says, pulling Sehun up to sit between his legs. He rubs a towel through Sehun's hair, hands gentle. Always gentle when handling his Master. "You need a haircut," he laughs.

Sehun smiles to himself. He likes it most when Luhan doesn't add Master on the end of his sentences. It's becoming a more regular thing recently, after Sehun's told him it's unnecessary several times. "Never mind that, I shall just have to tie it up, as you do," he says, instinctively leaning back into Luhan's warm body.

"As you wish, Master."

Sehun lets out a loud, irritated groan and Luhan only laughs, setting the towel to the side and pulling Sehun down to lie with him.

"'Tis sure to be a pleasant sight to see," he whispers, smiling as Sehun's cheeks redden. He reaches out to run a finger through the hair falling into Sehun's closing eyes, before pushing it out of the way. "Much better."

Luhan plays with Sehun’s hair, watching his Master’s serene face, close enough that he could count his eyelashes. He sucks in a breath. Close enough to --

"If your destiny as a Pawn is to be with your Master," Sehun says suddenly, eyes still closed, making Luhan jump, "what should happen when I -- no, we -- slay the dragon and regain my heart?" He opens his eyes, looking into Luhan's wide ones. "Your mission would then be over, would it not?"

"...It would seem so, yes. I feel as though my fate would still lie with you, however."

"How so? You seem to become more human everyday."

"Are you afraid, Arisen?" Luhan whispers. Sehun only furrows his eyebrows. "I do not plan on parting ways with you, unless you so wished it."

“I’d never,” Sehun breathes, just loud enough for Luhan to hear. “But I wonder if you hold no desire to do other things, rather than always fretting over me.”

“Sehun.” Sehun’s eyes widen. Luhan rarely says his name. “Maybe you believe I take my job as your Pawn too seriously, that I look after you more than you think you need. But I enjoy doing it.”

“But-”

Luhan places his fingers over Sehun’s lips. “Besides, anything I could do, be it travel, create new potions, become a better Swordsman -- I can do it beside you, can I not?” Luhan smiles, takes his hand away from Sehun’s face. “I believe it to be much funner this way.”

Sehun searches Luhan’s face for any sign of hesitation, of doubt, of anything that isn’t complete sincerity and adoration. “Thank you,” he whispers, eyes not wanting to meet Luhan’s.

“Now go change and we’ll head to sleep, okay?”

Sehun dreams. Dreams of himself, fighting the dragon for his heart, Luhan beside him, casting protection spells around them, throwing his daggers into the beast. When Sehun finally stabs it through the heart, clinging to its leg, the dragon lets out a cry that sends him flying, crashing into Luhan’s waiting arms.

The dragon turns to dust, leaving with the wind. All that remains are the bones, and a bloody heart. Luhan passes the heart to him, cradling it gently, blood smearing on his soft hands. Once it touches Sehun, it is back inside his ribcage, beating furiously when Luhan smiles up at him.

They inch closer and--

Sehun wakes up with a start. He’s awfully warm, heat surrounding him and pressed into his back, like a fire on his bare skin.

“Sehun?” Luhan yawns, and Sehun realises an arm around his waist when it tightens slightly. The empty space inside his ribcage aches slightly. “Nightmare again?”

“Ah, no, quite the opposite, actually.”

“Hm? But the way you woke up--”

“It’s nothing!” Sehun whisper shouts, ears burning. “Let’s just go back to sleep.”

Luhan raises an eyebrow, though Sehun misses it in the dark. He knows his Master well enough to know he’s hiding something, that he’s embarrassed, but he lets it go, falling back to sleep once he’s sure Sehun is dreaming again.
