[Team Seven] Run In
Random new instalment in the High&Low + Snow Man universe.
Sorry for being late!!
Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, another day. A week. Time crawled by slowly. Fukazawa didn’t even know why he cared, why he was counting, what he was counting down for. Maybe it was because he was bored right now. There wasn’t much going on around the territory of the Hoodlum Squad. Just the usual things. Disillusioned people, normal people, living their lives.
He walked past the cafe their frequented, past the shop run by the Ichigo Milk girls and then further down the road, to the grey zone that existed between the different territories.
“Fukka?” A voice stopped his aimless wandering.
Turning around, Fukka found a bespectacled individual behind him. They were wearing a school uniform - neatly, not even a wrinkle or a grain of dust - and had dark hair in a rather normal haircut. The face behind the glasses was a familiar one. Albeit aged a couple of years.
“Abe-chan?”
“Wow, it’s been ages!” Abe smiled - a gentle smile, just like Fukazawa remembered it. “How have you been? And what are you up to these days?”
Fukazawa smiled back. “Nothing much really. Hanging around here, jobbing from time to time to make a living. Taking care of the neighborhood as part of the Hoodlum Squad. You?”
“Hoodlum Squad, huh? That suits you,” Abe chuckled. “Me? Nothing much either. Going to school. As you can see.”
“Aren’t you a little old for school?” Fukazawa furrowed his eyebrows.
“Ah, things happened.” Abe replied and scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. “Life.”
“I see. You did move around a lot from what I remember.” He and Abe had been in the same elementary school class but the other had moved and changed schools before long. Fukazawa had still met the other time and again, though at school events of whatever - sports tournaments and the like that had more than one school participating. He remembered the other as a studious person, a good student with good grades and perfect attendance. Always neat with all of his homework and notes in order - unlike Fukazawa’s own.
“Wanna hit the arcade or something?” Fukazawa didn’t know where that invitation had come from. Maybe it was the boredom talking.
“Oh, I’d love to. But I think I need to clean up some trash first,” Abe walked over to Fukazawa with quick strides and then punched someone in the face who had been approaching Fukazawa from behind. “What do you think you are doing?” There was no gentleness in Abe’s tone now.
“Such cowardly sneak attacks against a single opponent. Haven’t ya brats learned anything at school, huh?” His tone and way of speaking had also changed completely. He slammed two more thugs against each other and they went down groaning.
The rest of the group - where had they come from, had Fukazawa zoned out that bad? - was grovelling by now. “Abe-san!!!! We’re sorry! We didn’t see you-”
“This isn’t even our territory yet. Don’t you know how much trouble this might have caused?”
“We’re sorry!”
Cracking his knuckles, Abe put down his school bag. “Sorry isn’t going to cut it.” He pushed his bangs out of his face, a wild and manic look in his eyes.
A hand on his shoulder stopped him and he turned to glare at Fukazawa but then blinked. “Ah.”
The thugs used that moment of distraction to flee.
“I didn’t know you had this kind of side to you, Abe-chan.” Fukazawa grinned. “It’s kinda hot.”
“Straightforward and honest, aren’t we, Fukka?” Abe chuckled. “Well, thanks for the compliment.” The glasses went back on. “Sorry for that.”
“Nah. I didn’t realize I had gotten quite this close to Ouyakoukou’s territory.” He got a better look at Abe’s uniform. “Didn’t know you went to that kind of school now.”
“Like I said, things happened.” Abe grinned.
“Tell me about it. Tell me everything. I’ll treat you to coffee.”
