[Sonic] Check-in
Uh so more Miyadate ABO, set after the other one. Because omega Date, and smart Abe-chan taking care of members.
On the third morning, Watanabe came awake suddenly to the sound of the front door opening, senses oversharp with alpha protectiveness. Growling softly in the back of his throat, Watanabe covered more of Miyadate's body with his own. Miyadate barely stirred, boneless against him from exhaustion.
"It's just me," Watanabe heard Abe call softly, and a few seconds later he leaned in the doorway. He kept his distance, careful in case even his beta scent cause distress to either Watanabe or Miyadate. He was usually safe enough, but heats were unpredictable. "Everything all right?"
"Mostly," Watanabe yawned, relaxing, although he kept Miyadate gathered close. "What day's it?"
"Tuesday," Abe said. He must have work in a couple hours, Watanabe realized, feeling a combination of mild guilt that the others had to work without them and satisfied laziness that he didn't have to crawl out of bed. "I brought you soup and some karaage from your mother, and there's apples and juice in the fridge too. I'm going to start some rice in the cooker, so definitely eat something later, promise?"
"We will," Watanabe said, defensive. "I know how to take care of him."
Abe didn't take any offense, used to heat-cranky alphas. He just smiled at Watanabe. "Take care of yourself too, though. I'll clean up a little out here before I go. Do you want me to bring you new sheets? Do you need more blankets?"
Watanabe groaned softly at the idea of trying to coax Miyadate out of bed long enough to do the annoying chore of changing the sheets, but they were gross enough that they really needed to. Maybe Watanabe could get him into the bath and do it while he was soaking. "Yes, please."
"Got it." Abe's head disappeared from the doorway.
Watanabe drifted, not entirely awake or asleep, listening to the soft noises of Abe puttering around the apartment. He still felt fairly hazy since he'd started his heat half a day later than Miyadate, but it was likely they were through the most exhausting part, since they'd fallen asleep around four and Miyadate was still out. On the first day of their combined heat they were usually lucky to get an hour or two of sleep at a time.
"Hey." Abe was back, startling Watanabe out of his doze. He held up a pile of sheets with a couple bottles of water on top. "I can just leave them over here?"
"Abe-chan?" Miyadate asked, voice hoarse and words slurred together, stirring against Watanabe's side. "You c'n cm'in. Right?" he asked Watanabe for confirmation.
Watanabe sniffed Miyadate's hairline, cautious, but Miyadate's scent was still relaxed. "Yeah." Back when things were tense between Abe and Miyadate, it would have definitely caused a problem, but that had been years ago. These days Miyadate had heats where he couldn't stand anyone's scent but Watanabe's, but it would either be all their scents or none of them, never any one group member individually who upset him.
"Thanks." Abe walked over to set the sheets down on the end of the bed. He held out a bottle of water in each hand; Watanabe sat up to take one gratefully, but Miyadate refused to move, slack on his back. "You two are mess."
"Yup," Watanabe agreed, uncapping his water bottle as he looked Miyadate over. His eyes were half-stuck shut with sleep, his hair was tangled wildly, and bite marks were scattered across his chest and shoulders. Watanabe was sure he looked worse if anything, but it was satisfying to some primal part of him to see Miyadate looking so used and worn out. "Gotta keep the omega satisfied, you know."
"Please do," Abe said as if he was long-suffering, but he couldn't hide all the smile. "The last thing we need is another Sakuma." Abe looked down. "Hm?" Watanabe followed his line of sight to the hem of Abe's shirt, where Miyadate was tugging on it.
"Lie down with us?" Miyadate asked, voice uncharacteristically uncertain. "You have some time before work, right? It's early."
"I shouldn't," Abe said gently, before Watanabe could voice his objection to anybody, even a group member, sharing their nest during heat. Miyadate gave a soft whine at the rejection, and Watanabe HATED that noise.
Watanabe gritted his teeth as two alpha instincts butted heads: the desire to have Miyadate all to himself versus the need to do whatever would keep Miyadate happy. He could cope for a short window, he decided. "Oh, just do it. I think he just wants to be in the middle, he's been really clingy this time."
"If you're sure," Abe said, giving them one last chance to back out before climbing onto the edge of the bed. Abe made sure one of the blankets was between them so that Miyadate could have the warmth and security of Abe being curled up against him without any of the mixed signals longer skin-on-skin contact would create. If they were really unlucky, Miyadate's omega hormones would just amp up all over again if it seemed like there was some competition going on over him, although that was a lot more likely if it was another alpha with them instead of Abe's stable beta pheromones.
But Abe was an expert at their heats after all this time, on all of Snow Man's heats and half of SixTONES and A.B.C-Z's besides, just from spending so many show runs together. Abe would never be careless with Miyadate in this state. And nobody was interested in a repeat of the Hasshi incident.

you know, practical stuff.

and then Hasshi has to slink into work smelling like them all over and Tottsu's jealousy sets him off too. OOPS.

I mean, he's a good senpai and stuff, which I guess is a kind of reliability, but yeah, not so emotionally stable for a looooooong time. These days he seems a lot healthier (now that his group is secure and Hashimoto loves him unconditionally and makes him take care of himself). He's a pretty perfect omega honestly, cause he's so pretty but somebody needs to take care of him, definitely.

I'd love to read that! Omega!Tottsu. *____* because lol I have zero grasp on ebi's characterizations T ^T)/

Oh, I would read the reverse of this absolutely, Alpha Date with Omega Watanabe, and honestly I even find that sort of more plausible overall, but it's fun to write them flipped lol. I think since he's so cool/masculine it's so much hotter to think about him being all desperate and somebody taking advantage of him? Maybe I just like reversal (which I definitely do).
But it's funny how different AUs tweak that a little. Like Midori and I talk about the universe where DateNabe are both girls, and how in that one it's like 100% that Watanabe tops Date, definitely. All the time. It's weird! Although in that universe they'd probably die from exhaustion from doing too much junk and then girls can go way more times.

No, no, I do love reversal too, it's way more interesting to figure that out because no switching ever would be so boring! And then there are nice pairings like Fujikita where reversal is a must because they'll always fight over dominance XD Reversal is always a nice way to figure out relationship dynamics, especially with established "harmonic" pairings like Datenabe or Miyatama.
That made me think for like an hour already, how certain traits they have already now get emphasized when they're girls. I'm obviously more familiar with genderswitch from Kisumai, but it's funny how it's the same there, suddenly Mitsu isn't all lazy but demanding and dominant lol. I don't know why it's so easy to imagine for DateNabe, with Nabesho being even more chatty and worried about gaining weight and Date being the quiet reasonable one (still waters run deep and that).

By contrast, I think every combination of Iwamoto/Sakuma would be basically exactly the same. M Iwa/F Saku is super cute, and oh man, so is F Iwa/M Saku. HEIGHT DIFFERENCE. But it wouldn't change much of their dynamic, I don't think. And age flips are interesting too, like if you flip Hasshi and Tottsu's ages, it's REAL weird.
We talk about the FF universe a lot because it's one of the only ways Midori can get me to talk about toys seriously (otherwise it's not a thing I'm into in fic). For some reason, I'm just really convinced that as a girl Nabesho would spend essentially all of her time strapping on for Date, and that Date would be such an easy mess for it. I think it has to do with how I'm convinced that in RL Date is actually gay, with or without Nabesho, vs I think Nabesho could be anything and probably would like girls fine if Date didn't exist.
Really terrible AU where they don't meet in kindergarten, not until high school, and Date is entirely gay but it's a big secret no one knows and Nabesho comes off as really easy-going ladies man, and it takes them TEN THOUSAND YEARS to actually get together long after they should have. But I'm glad that universe doesn't exist at all because I think Date would be a lot more messed up for a variety of reasons if he hadn't had Nabesho loving him unconditionally that entire time.
lol sorry to dump all my weird au headcanons on you.

The "messed up" part already got my brain working, I'm really, really weak for anything messed up this year, idek. That can lead in so many directions, but dark Date is something I've been intrigued with for a while now, it's a pretty interesting aspect because he's usually the one taking care of everyone else. Now that made me realize that I've probably been influenced too much ever since watching MARS... But something like Rei's character would be really nice for Date. Tbh Date is still pretty much a riddle for me, I'm trying to figure out his characteristics, but somehow it's super difficult. Not because he gets the least work in Snow Man and mostly stays in the background, but I just can't imagine him properly. Anyway, do you think he'd crush on Nabesho because Nabesho's that stupidly hot guy who's always surrounded by a bunch of girls and Date tells himself that's stupid because why would someone like that even like guys and then he thinks so much about it that he can't stop anymore? I can imagine Date being that brooding outsider type in the class, who only has a couple friends that he hangs out with during lunch and after school, but he's mostly alone in class and no one really cares about him either. And Nabesho's just shiny sparkly, but he's probably not really and now the image of them having a smoke together randomly popped up on my mind.
Now I'll probably think about that for a while u_u

like in RL, literally all it took to start fixing Date and Abe's relationship was just forcing Date to say out loud that he was hurt that Abe chose his school over the group, even though he didn't want to be mad at Abe, and then once that was out in the open they could move forward. Date was never going to do that on his own. Takki had to put them on TakiCHANnel to force him to, and plenty of time had gone by for them to fix it on their own.
Anyway, Nabesho would probably spend a long time putting out subtle hints, trying to feel out what Date thinks, and Date would stoically refuse to acknowledge all of them. In the end I think Nabesho would just have to go for it, and even then I think Date would take a LOT of convincing that Nabesho wasn't just fooling around. And then eventually graduation would be coming and it would just start all over because Date is totally sure this is just a high school thing for Nabesho, when it totally isn't.
Date without Snowman would have just one or two close friends, I think, so not entirely a loner. Like Sakuma and him were really close before the group (and still is Date's closest friend). So I think he'd have someone else to go to when he got desperate. But it would take him way longer than it should for him to admit he needs to talk to somebody. He might also go to a trusted senpai, like in RL he has Watta and Gaya and sort of Kame.
no subject
I guess Nabesho would be broad enough to just make a move after becoming too impatient but yeah, Date would never accept it like that. Actually he gives me the vibes of pushing Nabesho away and avoiding him after that because he's stubborn and insecure at that same time. If Nabesho hadn't been around since forever anyway and didn't know how Date is working, that certainly would lead to a lot of stupid misunderstandings, simply because Date is the brooding type who never says anything and bottles everything up, believing only his own thoughts (reminds me of my Mitsu...).
Date (the RL one XD) seems to be closer with Kame recently, right? Probably because Kame has a bit more time now. That's good because Kame is good at giving advice and I honestly, really hope that Date is getting some individual work soon. He should follow both his senpai's footsteps and try going for Best Jeanist in the future. He needs a good push from above because literally anyone else had some work on their own before and settled in with a certain image (like Sakuma just randomly popping up on Mileage or wherever it was). Maybe his birthday shows will give him some good exposure (will they get him three cakes? ww). I'm confused as to why he doesn't have more fans and work lmao, but that's probably just me being utterly biased...
