[Team one] a rock (or more) in the path
My first attempt at writing a Killjoys fic LOL. (I mostly just wanted to write sassy Lucy tbh)
It had been a rotten day, but he was starting to feel better after grabbing a bite to eat at least from the snacks he had squirreled away (where neither Dutch nor D'av would find them). Plus he had a bottle of liquor to look forward to at Pree's later when they got back to Westerly. It shouldn't be too much longer now.
Or at least that's what Johnny thought until the display in front of him started beeping.
"What now?" Johnny groans in exasperation.
"It appears we have a large obstruction in our path," Lucy's mechanical voice chirps in response, as if he couldn't already figure that much out from looking out the window.
It's an asteroid field stretched out in front of the ship. The rocks vary in size but the spacing is much too small to fit their ship through the gaps. Not without substantial damage anyway, and he wouldn't do that to Lucy.
"...there absolutely was not any sort of asteroid field here when we passed through earlier," he says out loud while he checks for alternative routes.
"You are indeed correct Johnny."
He snorts. "Thanks for the confirmation."
It's not long before both Dutch and D'avin arrive, having apparently realized something was wrong. He quickly catches them up to speed.
"You sure you just didn't accidentally take a wrong turn somewhere along the way?" Dutch questions as she surveys the asteroid field with a frown.
"Of course not," Johnny replies quickly right before Lucy dutifully adds, "I would never let Johnny take a route in the wrong direction."
"Right," Dutch says grimly.
D'avin looks deep in thought for a moment before chiming in, "maybe we blew up a moon earlier and can't remember it."
Both Dutch and Johnny turn to give him a deadpan stare.
"Stranger things have happened to us," D'av defends his theory.
"Scans indicate the asteroid field is made of artificial material," Lucy interrupts. "And they all appear to be moving deliberately now."
Johnny checks the console again (with another visual confirmation by glancing out the window) and sure enough, the space rocks had begun to surround their ship at all angles, blocking them in with nowhere to go.
"Well that's just great," Dutch complains even though she's probably busy thinking up about twenty contingency plans to fight their way out of this mess if necessary.
D'avin sighs. "Guess there goes our evening plans."
Johnny is busy looking for an opening or a weakness to break them out of the sudden asteroid prison. "Do you guys remember the good old days when we were just simple bounty hunters? I miss those days."
"I believe Johnny may be misremembering our previous adventures," Lucy answers with the most sarcasm her robotic voice can muster.
Dutch laughs as the ship suddenly rocks to its side as if being pushed by an unseen force. "As if our lives were ever that simple."
